Hi all, I’m in Ely for the weekend and wondering if anyone fairly local can tell me where there are swift colonies here, or where they might be feeding locally. Thanks

St Mary’s Church and the Silver St/King’s School area are great for Swifts. Peregrines should be visible feeding their young on the cathedral by now.

Hi Helen,
There are 3 main nest box colonies:.
The Maltings (under the eaves)
St Mary's Ely (in the belfry)
Centre E in the Cathedral Carpark (half brick entrances in the parapet)

If you zoom out these maps you should get your bearings

We also have 50 boxes in the belfry of the Cemetery chapels - but, as far as we know, no success so far.
Dick

Thanks Dick, that’s great. I’ll investigate, but maybe not much chance of seeing them on such a miserable day!  Helen.

I was also in Ely on Thursday. I only saw one swift because of the weather but found 5 x 3 swift boxes on the new Orchard Care Home in Damson Rd.  Not sure if they are occupied but I have added them to SwiftMapper
