Hi Brian,

Thanks for this, the gentleman was looking for experiences of proximity. He has space limitation but wishes to provide for all 3 which is admirable.

All the best

Subject: [SLN] Sharing close proximity with bats

Hello folks,

I've had a question from someone hoping to put swift and House Martin
boxes up under eaves along with some bat boxes.
I wonder if this advisable since both Swifts and Pipistrelles are active
around and just after sunset?  Does anyone have experience of this?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Alistair, I use this type of radio thermometer, it doesn't need wiring, it lasts for the Swift breeding season, and it is remarkably cheap. It does the job! I have one on test at home, it has lasted from the Spring up to now on the same battery, and a friend is using them in Toulon where they have worked fine during their heatwaves. Best wishes, Edward

Hi Dick

That sounds a great experiment to replicate around the world where are you off to next! Hope you have a great trip!

It would be great if an experiment could be done with dataloggers like these https://www.geminidataloggers.com/data-loggers/tinytag-plus-2/tgp-4017 <https://www.geminidataloggers.com/data-loggers/tinytag-plus-2/tgp-4017> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5-TeT2Qj94 <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5-TeT2Qj94>
both on internal and external boxes in the various locations and aspects on buildings to have a good data set…and compared to natural nest sites?

Cheers
