Entrance piece to "soffit box"

A neat entrance to this integrated "soffit box" within the eaves of this building in south-west London -

the entrance piece is made by Impeckable.

Hi Louise,

As far as I know, Impeckable only make the entrance pieces,

but I haven't asked and they seem open to new and bespoke challenges so worth asking them.

The context is that the builders had cut an untidy entrance hole so the Impeckable entrance piece is both to look better and aid entry.

Hi Julie,

There are no other pieces, just an entrance hole and the entrance piece.

(Inside you should have a nest form, and ideally partitions to keep the birds safe within the eaves, such as this Action for Swifts product if it will fit your space:

A front entrance box would probably be called a fascia box, as the entrance is through the vertical fascia board rather than through the horizontal soffit.

This is less often possible as commonly fascia boards have a brick wall behind them, 

but if your building has a fascia board with a suitable space behind then yes that could work and Impeckable's entrance pieces should work too.

I suggest speaking to Action for Swifts for the internal box as they might be able to tailor one for you, as the entrance would of course need to be in a different location.

Have we got an image of the soffit pieces? I would like a soffit box that has a front rather than bottom entrance hole.

We have wrestled with the problem: How do you put a hole in a soffit?

Our first attempt was to make an obround hole by using a 28mm hole saw. We provided a template for doing this.

More recently we figured the easiest way to make a hole is to make a circular hole with a holesaw.

By attaching a circular entrance piece with a premade obround entrance hole to the bottom of an internal nest chamber, we think this is the simplest for the people on site installing these things. The diameter of the hole in the soffit is 80mm and the diameter of the entrance piece that fits within it is 76mm.
