In a lot of people's examples using swffit, they have the margin and
padding set to 0 in the CSS. For example, here:
http://www.hectorarandawebworx.com/main/swffit-tutorial-fullscreen-flash-site-with-browser-scrollbars

In the demo files that come with swffit though, there's nothing in the
CSS about margin and padding and it seems to work perfectly fine
without it.

So, I was just wondering when or why it might be necessary to include
that? (I thought it's done automatically with swffit, but so many
people have the margin and padding set to 0 when they use it, it just
makes me wonder if it's necessary for certain browsers or anything
like that).

Any insight is much appreciated. Thanks!

swffit does it automatically since FitFlash 2.1 (09/23/2007) as you can see on the change logs: http://code.google.com/p/swffit/wiki/change_log - so you don't need to carry about it.

just remember that resetting the margin and border of the html and body tags can be useful for the alternate content styling..

cheers,
