I am curious how others find valid flight numbers for a particular route. I usually just do a search along the lines of "flights london to madrid" and go through the many results from the various comparison sites that pop up It would be great if there was a website which listed domestic flights and just some basic details though.
if you want to browse by airline theres a slightly hidden set of pages on fr24 that show entire airlines route structure on a clickable map for the coming week showing flight numbers and equipment, eg:
Zoom in or out by pinching the map, smaller airports appear by zooming in more.
Select an airport on the map by tapping on its ICAO code or search it using the ICAO Search button.

If you think that the cause of low fps is the net connection, you can try a wired ethernet connection instead of wifi, disable firewall and realtime virus protection (on both machines) also check processor and disk usage on machines if any of them is saturated then you have a machine performance problem, if not then it is something with the software config.

Abstract:A key enabler of intelligent maintenance systems is the ability to predict the remaining useful lifetime (RUL) of its components, i.e., prognostics. The development of data-driven prognostics models requires datasets with run-to-failure trajectories. However, large representative run-to-failure datasets are often unavailable in real applications because failures are rare in many safety-critical systems. To foster the development of prognostics methods, we develop a new realistic dataset of run-to-failure trajectories for a fleet of aircraft engines under real flight conditions. The dataset was generated with the Commercial Modular Aero-Propulsion System Simulation (CMAPSS) model developed at NASA. The damage propagation modelling used in this dataset builds on the modelling strategy from previous work and incorporates two new levels of fidelity. First, it considers real flight conditions as recorded on board of a commercial jet. Second, it extends the degradation modelling by relating the degradation process to its operation history. This dataset also provides the health, respectively, fault class. I had some fun yesterday with my son and his wife as we texting back and forth while they were waiting to board a JetBlue E190 at KEYW for a non-stop flight to KBOS. I told him I was going to create a flight plan using the default FSX flight planner (not the best- maybe the worst) and we would see who actually arrived first at KBOS. Well, and not surprisingly, he arrived 53 minutes before I did.
So my question to you simmers is this. Can anyone reference a source where I can see the actual flight plan that JetBlue used for this flight so I can compare it to what FSX generated. I have searched the JetBlue web site but only can come up with flight schedules. The flight number btw, was 2306. Now, if I can find the exact plan, what flight planner do you recommend to use to either convert or manually enter the data that could be used in FSX.
On a more general point I find that FS flights usually take longer than reality owing to the inefficiencies of airport operation and particularly longer departure and arrival routes than the real world.
Difficult to copy even if you had an actual accurate flightplan. Little NavMap, Flight Sim Commander and FSBuild have formidable flightplanners with many options for waypoints. I've done this dozens of times when my son was flying UKBB to ZBAA in FS9. He real B777, me FS9 PSS B777 China southern. I was completely thrilled to see my plane flying, more or less!!!, the same route in more or less the same time compared to Flightaware. In my opinion it is extremely hard to get complete coverage. Things as actual flight conditions, weather, plane weight, actual cruize speed, step climb procedures, actual SID's and STAR's and route diversions are hard to follow. I have all the issued books in the series: Ian Allan's From the Flightdeck. These books describe cockpit and crew actions almost minute by minute of actual real world flights. For instance Issue 11 : B747 EGLL - VHHH. All aircraft figures and full flightplan are given in the book and can be reproduced in Flightsim. However I found that strange as it may seem, some waypoints from the book were not available in Flightplanning. hope the screendump of my son's flight gives an indication. stay well....
From using the simulator, I understand that all I need to do is to switch the engines on, turn the brakes off and fly. Are there any additional things apart from a pre-flight checklist that an actual airline pilot has to do?
X-Plane is a much truer simulation of flying than that flight game Microsoft used to make. In fact, when coupled with certified hardware and a CFI, X-Plane can power a sim that you can actually log FTD time in.
Since you ask about airline flying for your comparison, there is a lot more to that than just the flying. An airline pilot is, with few exceptions, always operating under instrument flight rules (IFR). This means flying in the clouds with no reference to anything but instruments, weather as bad as a few hundred feet visibility and strong crosswinds for landing and takeoff are all part of normal ops. You are also operating under ATC, so radio ops are normal. The only comparable computer simulation of ATC to reality is VATSIM (as mentioned in comments), though it doesn't approach the level of busyness that you'll find in some airspace and airports (with the exception of some of their organized fly-ins).
A transport category jet is also a bit more complicated than "turn the engines on, release the brakes and go". The only computer sims that capture the level of detail properly are ones like the A-10 simulator by DCS.
