SINGLE NOTES
The large concert harp is one of our most favourite instruments, and we had this project on the top of our wish list. So be assured we put in our best effort to capture this instrument in a sample library at the highest possible quality, as you have grown to expect from Sonokinetic.
The harp has appeared in many forms since as early as 3500 BC. The pedal harp appeared around 1700, and was improved in 1810 by S. Erard's double movement, which allows to play in all keys and is still today's standard for the concert harp. The harp was extremely popular in the 18th century, used by many baroque and classical composers of the time (Händel, Mozart and others) and later started to appear in operas by Puccini and in symphonic music and ballets by Liszt, Berlioz, Massenet, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Wagner and others. The harp is also featured in modern music, appearing in works such as "She's Leaving Home" by The Beatles and "Dark Lady" by Cher. In the Marx Brothers movies, the very skilled harp player by the nickname Harpo often dedicates entire scenes playing the harp.
Sonatina Symphony Orchestra was a project by Mattias Westlund. More than 10 years ago, he created a free orchestral sample library primarily aimed at beginner composers. Today, this original library is not online anymore, however, a derivative version still exists at Bigcat Instruments. This version also includes a concert harp patch, which I found surprisingly useable due to its straight, classical sound.
"The CELESTIAL HARP is a Celtic cut," project lead Matthias Meeh explains. "It's much shorter and has a different sound quality to it. I think when composers look for more of an Elvish or fairytale harp, they would rather use a Celtic Harp instead of a normal one."
"The GLOW instruments are very intuitive and small, and very easy to get a cool, complex sound without taking too much brain space, so you don't have this choice paralysis that you can have with bigger products," Matthias continues. "If you need an easy harp that sounds good on its own without any other special things, you can just load it up and it won't take too much RAM or memory space in your project. It's also great if you need an easy ambient pad or atmosphere."
Covering full orchestra, string, brass and woodwind ensembles, classical and world percussion, Orchestral Essentials gives you the right ammo to start scoring for film, games or pop with the acclaimed "cinematic SAM sound". For each of the orchestral sections, an essential list of articulations is available, as well as one expressive legato instrument and an inspiring set of clusters, textures and effects. Apart from these orchestral elements, you will also find a concert harp, church organ, ProjectSAM's renowned Dystopia sound design, and, exclusive to Orchestral Essentials, an enchanting grand piano and harpsichord.
