Fromthe silly Swenglish subtitles to the eventual strobe-lit llama party that it devolves into, the opening credits of Monty Python and the Holy Grail are filled with good gags that are entirely missable on a first watch. But few lines stand out like those separating the thematic sections, immediately breaking the fourth wall and letting us all in on the joke that the formal elements of the filmmaking process will be deconstructed during the comedy.

OUT TUESDAYBATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE (Warner) With some turning against Superman over concerns he'll use his power for evil instead of good, Batman decides not to wait for that to happen. The latest block in DC Comics' retooled movie universe, both a sequel to 2013's 'Man of Steel' and prequel to the anticipated Justice League of America epics. With Henry Cavill returning as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. (PG-13; violence, some sensuality)

ELVIS & NIXON (Sony) Remember that historic, and historically weird, photo of President Richard Nixon and rock legend Elvis Presley shaking hands in the White House? This comedy-of-sorts shows you what happened before the picture, with Michael Shannon as the King and Kevin Spacey as Nixon. (R; some language)

DEMOLITION (Fox) An investment banker (Jake Gyllenhaal), having trouble keeping it all together after his wife dies in a car accident, makes an unlikely connection with a customer service representative (Naomi Watts) and decides to rebuild his life by, literally, tearing down parts of the old one. (R; language, some sexual references, drug use, disturbing behavior)

THE PERFECT MATCH (Lionsgate) A relationship-averse ladies' man is bet by his buddies that he can't stay with one woman for an entire month, and the woman he picks is, for once, just not that into the idea of a long-term deal. Romantic comedy with Terrence J, Cassie Ventura, Paula Patton, Donald Faison. (R; sexuality, some nudity, pervasive language)

MY BEST FRIEND (Lionsgate) When a girl moves with her father to the country, she has trouble fitting in until she's befriended by a horse, who talks only to her. Family drama with Catherine Bach, Patrick Muldoon. (G)

UNDERDOGS (Anchor Bay) When the former town bully turned soccer star comes back home to buy the whole town and turn it into a soccer stadium, a foosball champion gets a little help to take him on when the foosball table pieces come to life. Animated fantasy with voices by Matthew Morrison, Ariana Grande, Nicholas Hoult. (PG; some rude humor)

KILL ZONE 2 (Well Go USA) An undercover cop is framed and imprisoned under a different name; when it turns out he's a bone-marrow match for a prison guard's dying daughter, the two men form an alliance that could kill them both. In Mandarin and Cantonese, with English subtitles. (not rated; violence)

THE MARTIAL ARTS KID (Traditionz) A teenager finds his way out of trouble and into a dojo to deal with bullies. With Jansen Panettiere, Kathryn Nelson, and martial-arts stars Don 'The Dragon' Wilson, Cynthia Rothrock. (not rated; some martial-arts violence)

GREEN ROOM While playing at a hole-in-the-wall club in the backwoods, a punk band unwittingly sees a murder victim, making themselves targets unless they can escape alive. Dark thriller with Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Patrick Stewart. (R; violence, gory images, language, some drug content)

MY GOLDEN DAYS A globe-trotting anthropologist looks back on his youth, including the young Russian to whom he gave his identity and the girl who remains the love of his life. Drama directed by Arnaud Desplechin, with Mathieu Amalric, Lou Roy-Lecollinet. In French with English subtitles. (R; sex, nudity, language)

MARGUERITE & JULIEN A pair of aristocratic siblings fall in love, testing more than a few boundaries. Contemporary drama inspired by a real 17th-century story; in French with English subtitles. (not rated; sex, thematic material)

THE DOG LOVER A young woman with an animal rights agency is caught in the middle when she goes undercover to investigate an alleged puppy mill and finds something different. With James Remar, Allison Paige, Lea Thompson. (PG; thematic elements, disturbing images, some language)
