Hello all!
As those of you who have ventured to the shop in recent times may
have noticed, there's been a change of personnel here on Broad Street; Mr
Richard Cook has departed for the metropolitan glamour of managing the
Sweatshop in the City of London. Hark at him! Gone but not forgotten, his
memory will live on for all of us each time we look at Sweatshop marketing
and see him gamely mugging away in the newest running clobber. (Richard will
be running the Cabbage Patch 10 at the weekend.)
I'm still here though, and after being jealous of the
happy bunch going out running while I'm stuck indoors for many an evening
I've grasped the baton from Rich and will be there to gee things along every
Thursday.
I, by the way, am
Sam. I've been working here for two years, I've been a runner for about ten
years and I love it, and I hope I'll be able to inject some of my passion
and enthusiasm into the group and our running. If you haven't joined us for
a while, please come along and if you're not sure who I am, ask someone. I'm
friendly!
Alternatively, drop
me an email. I'd love to hear from some of you, both those who I've seen
many times, and those who may have joined and forgotten about us. Tell me
about yourself, and tell me what you'd like to see from the me and the
group.
I'd like
to think I'll be able to provide advice and guidance for you at whatever
level you may currently be at: I've trained with Olympic athletes and
renowned coaches; and I've also run almost every step of the way with my
girlfriend as she went from a complete novice to finishing the Reading Half
Marathon last year.
This
Thursday, I want to leave things in your hands. While we'll probably impose
a little more structure and planning into our Mondays and Thursdays (and
every other days) soon, this week I just want to show my face and get out on
the road with you.
I don't
want to keep you too much longer; I hope you're all healthy and happy and
enjoying your running. (And if not, start asking why not?!!)
Your new voice of Sweatshop Teddington
Running Group,
Sam Barnes
