how you edit the file. cio?

I have a problem to import the output files in the section: "READ SWAT OUTPUT". Appears this error: NOT ENOUGH SPACE IN TEMPORARY DISK.
This error appears only for the file .hru

First I deleted the temporary internet files and those in the folder C: \ Windows \ Temp

I also wanted to limit the writing parameters of hru. To do this I have seen that you can change the parameter IPDVAS in the file .cio, but:
1)at what point of simulation you must change it?
2)how you have to change it?
3)the file to edit is the one in the default folder?

does anyone have any solution to the problem or to edit the file .cio?

Hi Silvia,

Editing file.cio can be done a number of ways, depending upon how you are running SWAT. If you're using SWAT-CUP, it is one of the files under Calibration Inputs. If you're using ArcSWAT2009 or earlier you can edit some of the file.cio settings through the Run SWAT menu (in that case, just check the button that says something like Limit HRU Output). Alternately, file.cio can always be edited using a standard text editor such as notepad.

In order to change IPDVAS in file.cio (except for the Limit HRU Output case above), just change the first number of the 20 listed to 1, and leave the rest as 0 under HRU output variables. I'm not sure what to say in terms of "what point of the simulation" to change it--you need to change it before you run SWAT, so I guess at the beginning. And, yes, the one to edit is under Scenarios\Default\TxtInOut. Hope that this helps.

Best,
James

Thanks James!

I have already done all these things, but sadly the  .hru file is still too big! The only way to write it in the output table is to do the run a year at a time! This isn't a very funny thing, but apparently my hrus are too many! I do not know!
thank you very much for your clear explanation!!!

Hi Silvia,

Another option is to update not only IPDVAS but also IPDHRU in a similar manner. This way you can write not just very little for each HRU, but also for only 1 HRU rather than all of them. If that is too big, then I don't think it's the .hru file that is really a problem but that something else is going on.

Best,
James

hi,

I tried to load the rch output but I am getting the error as  "Not enough space on temporary disk".
Can anyone suggest me how to remove this error ?
I have 99 sub-basins and  989 HRU.
I run model from 2006 to 2099 with 4 years warmup period.

my file is 1.85 gb in TEXTInOut (output.rch)

Thank You
Binod
