Dear SWAT experts,

I am new to ArcSWAT. So far, I have already successfully run and calibrated my model based on daily precipitation. But I encountered problems when I want to run it on hourly time step. I understand that I need to alter the pcp.pcp and basins.bsn files, and use SWAT executable to run instead of using ArcSWAT. However, I think it is possible to use ArcSWAT to get pcp.pcp.

Can anyone tell me the exact format of sub-daily precipitation input (multiple stations) of ArcSWAT?

Below is the precipitation input of mine, please point out my fault and give me some guidance on this, I will be very grateful for it!

Best regards,
Kun

Hi, Gaku,

Thank you so much for your response, it seems right. But I got another error when I input my weather data now, which said "the number of rows in your file does not correspond correctly to the timestep of the file". I am now using hourly precipitation data, and other weather data (temperature, relative humidity, solar and wind) are all daily. Is that mean all of the weather data should be hourly?

Best regards,
Kun

Hi,

Daily weather data is ok to run sub-daily simulation.
Regarding to your problem, please check the number of row in your file.
Make sure there are no spaces after the end of rainfall values
Example:

20040101, 60
No space here

However, you may also check the possible causes as shown below:
- all precipitation files have the same number of row;
- no blank space;

Hope it will work.

I found a lot of "#VALUE!" in pcp_hourly_48.txt file.
You may check all your pcp files again.

Hi, Gaku,

Do you know whether other weather data should also be hourly or not?

Hi,

Weather data should be daily.
For example, for temperature input as shown in ch07: http://swat.tamu.edu/media/69320/ch07_input_tmp.pdf
SWAT requires daily max. and min. temperature. There are no any statements regarding sub-daily temperature.
Moreover, there is no option to select the time step of weather data in weather generator interface. Therefore,
that's for sure, SWAT only requires daily weather data.

Hi Gaku,

I have a question about  sub-daily simulation in SWAT (SWAT2015, Rev. 637). What is the maximum time step of precipitation data, must be less than 60 minutes?

Thanks in advance.
