***This is also posted on the ArcSWAT group so sorry for the repeat
but I really need help in this. Thanks.***
Hey,

I am trying to use land use update (lup.dat) to urbanize my watershed.
I make the lup.dat file using the ArcSWAT interface and then rewrite
the file, and then run it. SWAT runs successfully but then when I look
at my previous runs with no land use update and the run with the land
use update, the flows are exactly the same and there are no changes at
all. To test it, I urbanized all my forest and agricultural areas in
the basin to see if it was just the amount of change that was
insignificant, but there was still no change. I am looking at the
flows in the watout.dat file. is this because I am looking at the
wrong flow, should I be looking at the output.rch files? or is this
because by lup.dat isn't working?

Any insight into this would be truly helpful.

Thanks.

there was a bug in arcswat2009.93.5 version, please upgrade to latest
version to fix this issue.

Hi all,

We are trying to use the Land Use Update through ArcSWAT 2009.93.7b (and ArcGIS 9.3.1 with SP2).

We have implemented relatively complex crop rotation schedules by splitting the agricultural land use type into 14 splits during HRU Definition (these splits represent different fractions of the total agricultural land). Each split has a specific/individual 5 year crop rotation in the management files. SWAT runs as expected for the default/base scenario, and generally produces realistic yields for the 14 different crop rotations.

When trying to run scenarios, where the agricultural land use is changed for all these 14 splits into forest - using the Land Use Update through the ArcSWAT interface - the effect on, for example, NO3 loss is negligible. Also, when looking at the updated HRU fractions (in the "LupIn x.dat" files), these seem not to have been changed for the land use types that represent the different splits (although when writing the lup files, we could select these land uses/splits and got the message that the land use update had successfully been implemented).

Our suspicion is therefore that the Land Use Update in ArcSWAT will only work on land use types that have not been split into multiple land uses during HRU Definition.

Anyone got a similar experience?
Could anyone confirm that the Land Use Update will not work for land use splits?

Many thanks
Dennis

Hey Dennis,

I'm also trying to use the land use update with Swat2009 rev 488 but no change happens. I also did a lot of splits at the stage of HRU definition. Could you verify your assumption that it doesn't work for splittet HRUs?
