Request from Developers

Hi,

I have a request for the developers. As you know, when using SWAT+, we need to convert climate and observation data into a specific format before uploading them. If you want to upload data in the SWAT2012 format, it’s one way; if you want to use the SWAT+ format, it’s another. Moreover, SWAT+ uses Fortran to run simulations, and even a single misplaced dot, comma, or space in these files can cause errors.

There are many different manuals, and each one has its own shortcomings. For example, one of them doesn’t explain the tstep value, while another does. In addition, the program unnecessarily asks for multiple pieces of information, such as both the date and the total time interval, as well as whether the data are daily or monthly.

We spend most of our time compiling and formatting these data.

Here’s my request:
Would it be possible to add a table interface—like an Excel sheet—inside the program, where we could simply copy and paste the data, and then SWAT+ would automatically convert it into the required format and run it?

HEC-RAS, for example, has such an interface. You enter the date, specify the time interval, copy and paste the data, and that’s it!

This way, instead of spending time preparing, formatting, and converting external data into a very specific structure—removing the last blank line, setting UTF-8 vs Windows (CRLF) vs UNIX (LF), and other time-consuming details—we could focus solely on entering values in the program’s built-in fields.
