SWAT+ Editor 4.0.0 fails to import GIS data

SWAT+ Issue Report Template

1. Primary Issue Location

• Component: SWAT+ Editor 4.0.0 (started from QSWAT+ 4.0.1)
• Area of impact: Model input / GIS data import

2. Software Versions

• GIS Interface: QSWAT+ 4.0.1 (QGIS on Ubuntu Linux, CRC HPC system)
  
  SWAT+ Editor: 4.0.0
  
  SWAT+ Revision: 62 (the new one)

3. Project Characteristics

• Watershed Details: 
• HUC10 watershed in northern Indiana, USA
• Delineation completed successfully in QSWAT+
• HRUs created using 5% land use and 5% soil thresholds (default slope threshold)
• Project is relatively small and based on standard datasets
• Modeling Aim:  Water balance

4. Description of Issue

• The Problem:  The watershed is created successfully in QSWAT+ 4.0.1. However, when I click "Edit Inputs and Run SWAT+" to launch the SWAT+ Editor, the Editor immediately fails while importing the GIS data (table codes_bsn has no column named i_fpwet).   Screenshot attached
• Step to Reproduce: 
  1. Open the project in QSWAT+ 4.0.1.
  2. Complete watershed delineation and HRU definition.
  3. Click Step 3: Edit Inputs and Run SWAT+.
  4. SWAT+ Editor 4.0.0 launches.
  5. During the GIS import, the following error appears:
  table codes_bsn has no column named i_fpwet

  This happens every time.

5. Supporting Data (Optional)

• Link to TxtInOut folder: NA

The project is being run on an Ubuntu Linux HPC system. Both QSWAT+ 4.0.1 and SWAT+ Editor 4.0.0 were installed recently.

Has anyone encountered this codes_bsn / i_fpwet database schema error before? It almost looks like the Editor expects a newer database schema than the one produced by QSWAT+, or there is a mismatch between the QSWAT+ plugin and the Editor version.

Hello, the cause is exactly as you guessed: an incorrect data schema. I believe an incorrect version of swatplus_datasets.sqlite was packaged with the Linux and Mac installers. Please download the correct version here: https://plus.swat.tamu.edu/downloads/4.0/swatplus_datasets.sqlite

Replace the file in your project directory with that version.

Also see if you can replace the file in your install location, Databases folder.

Let me know if this does not fix the problem. If it doesn't fix it, please zip and send your project folder.

There was a bug in the editor performing the swatplus_datasets.sqlite update in the incorrect order during new project setups. This is fixed in the 4.0.1 released just now: https://github.com/swat-model/swatplus-editor/releases/tag/v4.0.1

But also, the original fix from the previous message works as well: replace any old swatplus_datasets.sqlite with the new 4.0 version at  https://plus.swat.tamu.edu/downloads/4.0/swatplus_datasets.sqlite

Hi Jaclyn,

Thanks so much for the quick response and for identifying the issue.

I replaced the swatplus_datasets.sqlite file in both the project directory and the editor installation's Databases folder using the updated 4.0 version you linked, and everything seems to be working well now.

I haven't tried the new 4.0.1 release yet, but the database replacement resolved the problem on my end.
