Lower NSE after calibration

Hi all,

I'm working on calibrating monthly streamflow, and I've encountered a challenge. My initial NSE was 0.71. After calibration, it unfortunately dropped to 0.57. I've run five iterations, each with 1000 simulations, but the NSE hasn't improved.

I'm wondering if anyone has insights into potential issues I might be overlooking? I've attached a screenshot of the  95PPU plot for reference.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.

Hi Yiwen,

It seems that your project default values are giving you a good result. If you wanna maximize your NSE, I suggest you first to analyze which parameters are you modifying and see theirs sensitivity and default values. After that, try to see the ranges that increases your NSE and try to calibrate in that range.

As a comment, you should include your inf_par to better understand what you did and give us insight on your pottential issues!

Regards,
Oscar

Hi Oscar,

Thank you for your insightful reply and suggestions.

I previously adjusted the parameters based on the sensitivity test, following the guidance in the manual. Also, I have attached the par_inf.txt file for your kind review.

Thanks again.

Best regards

Hi,

Was your model set up using SWAT or SWAT+? Some parameters in your par_inf do not appears on the Absolute_SWAT_Values.txt.

Oscar

Hi Oscar,

I set up the model using SWAT+, hence calibrating using the parameters from SWAT+ as well.

Best regards
