hi
i am trying to calibrate a mountainous watershed.

i started with pre calibration (r__SFTMP.bsn              0       0)

but the issue is that swat cup is not picking correct values from the output.rch file.

Please see the attached file of the 95ppu plot (only four values have been picked by swat cup), although I have provided 12 values of observed data (see attached observed files).

Moreover, the 95 PPU plot is not visible. even though the 95ppu_g. text file exists in Sufi2.out folder.

P.S (sometimes it picks all 12 values but these are different from the output.rch file)

please help

Hello,

In order to calibrate a snow-fed mountainous watershed, You should first add elevation bands into your model and then fix Lapse Rates. After that, You can calibrate Snow Parameters independently. You will have a significant improvement.
For further information, You can watch Video series 4 by Karim Abaspour.

Kind Regards
Salman

elevation bands have been added in arcswat.
i just need to check that why swat cup is not picking values from output.rch file
the selection of parameters will be the next task

Hello,

If you check your Extract Def. File you have given 2003 to 2003. That means you want to extract data for only one year (2003) on a monthly time step. And hence, You are getting output for only one year. If you look into your CIO File, the simulation starts from 1995. Do select the number of years for extraction based on your available observed flow data for calibration and try to correctly mention the number of years for simulation in File Cio. For instance, If you have observed flow data for calibration (2000 to 2005), then you must extract flow from 2000 to 2005 in the extract def. file. At the same time, You should update your file cio. considering the warm-up years. If you have taken 2 years as warm-up then you will mention Start year (1998) and the number of years for simulation must be 8 in your file cio. Hope this helps

Kind Regards
Salman

If you are interested in extracting flow for only one year 2003, Then your extract def. file is right, but you need to Update your file cio. in a way that your start year must encompass your warm-up period. For example, If you have taken two years of warm-up, then you must start with 2001, and the number of years should be 3 in File Cio.

hello

please see the attached files.
in file.cio_iter3, i have changed number of years as 3 and IYR as 2001 (as i m using 2years warm up period)
the best_simulated values are as under
FLOW_OUT_11
observed    simulated
489.0000      114.4000
471.0000      586.3000
569.0000      1245.0000
1109.0000     6263.0000
2759.0000     4970.0000
6790.0000     4086.0000
7925.0000     5878.0000
5489.0000     6329.0000
3024.0000     4897.0000
1062.0000     1769.0000
739.0000      634.4000
560.0000      421.7000

in file.cio_iter4, i have not performed any changes to the generated cio file and the best_simulated values are as under
FLOW_OUT_11
observed    simulated
489.0000      106.7000
471.0000      82.5000
569.0000      616.4000
1109.0000     2189.0000
2759.0000     1902.0000
6790.0000     1687.0000
7925.0000     6113.0000
5489.0000     7004.0000
3024.0000     4066.0000
1062.0000     1233.0000
739.0000      535.9000
560.0000      276.5000

please note that both these simulated are different than the values of the output.rch fie created from arcswat
the values for year 2003 are as under
rch file
107.70
595.40
1267.00
6288.00
5017.00
4117.00
5835.00
6270.00
4849.00
1741.00
628.80
422.70

this is close to iter3 but not same

moreover 95 ppu plot is still missing in both cases even the 95ppu_g text file exist in the Sufi2.Out folder

Hello,

First of all, make sure you are checking exactly the same reach (Rch_11) in the output reach file. Secondly, Instead Snow parameter with zero range, Run your model by adding a neutral parameter (WDPQ with zero ranges). By doing so, You will have exactly the same output as in your reach file.
When you are running your model with any snow parameter or any other parameter with zero ranges, That means you are changing the default values of important parameters and your output must be changed.

Kind Regards
Salman

However, WDPQ.bsn is a neutral parameter and by assigning zero ranges to it and running your model with only one simulation, the output will not change.

the output with parameter WDPQ remains same as in iter_3 (with r_SFTMP.bsn 0,0).
P.S i have checked the rch no. (it is 11)

Don’t use, r_SMTMP 0       0, Rather, Run your model with only WDPQ, just to have an idea of your original model behaviour. After that, you can calibrate and fix snow parameters independently .

i haven't used SFTMP
in latest iteration only WDPQ have been used but the results are same if i run only with SFTMP

Hello,

Copy your original TextInout folder from ArcSwat Scenario Folder and Paste it in your SWAT-CUP directory or You can copy the backup folder again if you haven't already made any changes, and then try the same. Otherwise, you are doing something wrong or missing something.

Regards
Salman

Can you please explain further.
Where to place the txtinout folder?
In any backup folder of swat cup project or at main swat cup project folder?

You should replace your current SWAT-Cup project folder.

Main SWAT-Cup folder. Because your iteration runs with the open directory. The back up is preserved.

You should replace Swat2012 with swat.exe.

Yes. You should paste the TxtInout in the same directory as you are showing.

Dear Mr. Salman
Hope you're doing well.
Can you please help me in climate change with swatCup or arcswat?
I have prepared pcp1.pcp and tmp1.tmp and wgen files for future.
I have replaced these files in calibrated swat folder.
Now what to do next?
Kindly help
Thanks
