Dear members,

I am using SWAT-CUP to calibrate parameters of a hydrologic model for a river basin in which snow is there.

In this case, what could be the acceptable P-factor and R-factor.

Thanks in advance.
naveen.

the question is somehow irrelevant. in a snow watershed follow these steps:

Snow parameters

1. DO NOT fit snow, rainfall, CAMMX, PLAPS, and TLAPS parameters at the same time with other parameters. They should each be set individually.

2- If watershed has snow, i.e., if there are high mountains, then add .sno files to the project. In the window below check the “Use Subbasins Snow Parameters”

image.png

3- Add elevation band in the watershed. You can do this in SWAT-CUP also. See C:\.....\SWAT-CUP\ExternalData\utilityprograms

4- Do a first run of the project before any calibration and see how it looks like. Based on that you should choose the parameters instead of randomly selecting all parameters. See the European paper:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022169415001985

5- First set PLAPS and TLAPS. Run about 100 simulations and set their values to the best simulation (i.e., fix their values. They should not be fitted with other parameters). See page 66 in the manual.

6- Then set the 5 snow parameters below in the ranges shown. Run about 300 simulations and then set the parameters (fix them) to the best parameter values. Should not calibrate these with other parameters at the same time.

v__SMTMP.bsn        -5      5

v__SFTMP.bsn         -5     5

v__SMFMX.bsn         0     10

v__SMFMN.bsn        0    10

V__TIMP.bsn            0      1

If you created .sno parameters for each subbasin, then parameterize as follows:

v__SMTMP.bsn________1        -5      5

v__SMTMP.bsn________2        -5      5

etc…

7- After fixing the above 7 parameters, do one simulation to see the final results. manual, using

r__CN2.bsn      0      0

8- Based on the results choose appropriate parameters to fit. See Table 1 in https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022169415001985

Hi Karim,

I tried making elevation bands following the instructions in the word document in the elev_band folder. I created the elev_band.txt file and the topo.txt file successfully, but when I run the elev_band_CUP.exe file I get an error (picture below). It works perfectly with the sample files that are provided, even if I change the elev_band.def file to include fewer subbasins without making any other changes. I can't find any errors in my files. Could you take a quick look?

Best regards,
Bendik

I no longer need help with this, although I wasn't able to solve the issue in the program. I made an excel sheet that creates the model.in file based on the TopoReport and Elev_Band files.

Bendik

Hi Bandik

Can you share with me your excel sheet that creates the model.in? I am also having difficulty running  Elev_band executable. It runs until subbasin x and then stops... I dont see whats the problem with that.

Thank you

Dear Mohammad,

I had the same problem, just try to copy your all basin with its elevation bands in to elev_band.txt file in your directory and then run the Elev_band_CUP.exe, it will works and the problem will solve. see the attached file please. hope it helps.

Best
Ayoubi

Hello everyone

I have the same problem, the Elev_Band_cup.exe file are generet a file model.in without values.

How can I resolve this?

Thanks all

I am unable to run Elev_Band_Cup.exe , when i run it, it gets stuck at the following place (see the screenshot) and  the file model.in generated is empty. replace.exe is working fine.
please help.
thanks

I had this same issue that I prepared every file right but after I ran the Elev_band_Cup.exe, the model.in file was empty. I found that this is because I used QSWAT to create the SWAT project. The format of TopoRep.txt from QSWAT is different from ArcSWAT. We need to modify each "Subbasin" into "Subbasin #" in the TopoRep file from QSWAT. Then the issue can be solved.

Hello All,

SWATCUP-premium (ver 6.2) and SWATplus-CUP (ver 3.0) have been updated.
The following videos were also uploaded:

SWATplus-CUP (ver 6.2)

 SWATCUP-Premium (ver 3.0)

The following topics are covered:

- Show how SPE and PSO works for SWATCUP-premium and SWATplus-CUP - Single_Objective_Function - Single_Objective_Behavioral_Function - Multi_Objective_Function - Multi_Objective_Behavioral_Function
- The fallacy in the use of the “best-fit” solution in hydrologic modeling
