Difference between Land use update v.s Land use refinement?

Dear all,

I'm learning how to update the land use data in SWAT to assess the impact of land use change to stream flow.

As far as I know, there are two ways to do that:

- Land Use Refinement (in HRU Definition step)

- Land Use Update Edit (in Edit SWAT Output)

But I do not know the difference between the two functions? when should I use them?

I know this was a few years ago now, but I wondered if you could help on a very similar matter.

I want to model the widening of riparian zones and setting them to different land use types. This means I would need to essentially change the spatial dimensions of land uses across HRUs and sub-basins. 

The long way - to create a new land use files and multiple models for each scenario but is there a way to do this using "Land Use Split"?

Any help would be much appreciated.
