Hey RAs!!

Welcome to your last edition of the Wednesday Wellness email for the
semester! Instead of our typical format, this week we thought we'd
give you some tips for studying and stress survival so you can make it
through this very busy time of year. Enjoy!

Top 10 Tips for Surviving Finals

1. Take care of yourself! This sounds simple, but is actually one of
the most common things students forego during stressful times. Make
sure you get sleep, stay hydrated, eat regularly, eat well, and take
time each day to exercise. You'll retain more information and be more
productive if you're well-rested and happy!

2. Listen to your body. If you feel like you've hit a wall and can't
work anymore, your body is telling you to take a break! Take 60
minutes a day to allow yourself to do something relaxing, like
watching a TV show or hitting the gym. Your body will thank you if you
give it time to rest. For example, take a nap for 30 minutes, walk
around campus for 20, and try our 10-minute workout (below) to
complete your hour of self-care!

3. Use the buddy system. Enlist a friend to help you stay productive!
Check up on each other throughout the week and make sure you're both
getting work done, but also taking care of yourself.

4. Eat right. Stress can alter your eating habits, but don't let it!
Make sure you're eating at regular intervals, and eating healthy foods
instead of grabbing whatever you can find in your room. Your diet
actually hugely impacts your mood and the way your body feels. Just
like you feel healthier after eating healthy, you'll feel crappy after
eating less nutritious foods.

5. Take 10 minutes to do a workout!   Try the Study Stress Buster:
10 min As Many Rounds As Possible
10 burpees
10 squats
10 tuck jumps
10 sit ups
1 minute plank hold

6. Recognize signs of extreme stress. If you experience nausea,
insomnia, dizziness, frequent sickness, or other signs of stress, make
sure you take a long break from what you're doing and try to relax.
Take a walk around campus, or meditate for a few minutes.

7. Eat healthy snacks. There are plenty of quick, healthy foods
available in the Bison that you can eat on the go. Try a package of
nuts for protein, OJ for vitamin C, yogurt to boost your immune
system, or an apple for an energy boost! These are much better choices
than energy drinks or caffeine.

8. Don't use alcohol or drugs to cope with your stress. They won't
help in the long run, and are harmful to your body even in the short
term. Also, remember that abusing prescription drugs that are not
prescribed to you is illegal, not to mention harmful. Everybody reacts
differently to drugs, and you could end up in the hospital instead of
writing your paper if you abuse a prescription drug like Adderall.

9. Have trouble concentrating? Check out this site for tips from
fellow Bucknellian Erin Kircher on natural ways to increase your
focus.

10. Remember that summer is just around the corner! When stress hits,
just remember that finals will be over in only 15 days. Then you have
a few months to relax and gear up for next year!

Have a healthy week, good luck with finals and enjoy your summer!
