Papers, Posters, & Ignites

Submissions close May 7, 2015

The new science of Complex Systems is revolutionizing the sciences in the widest sense. A new generation of Complex Systems centers and institutes have emerged in many places, all over the globe. Similarly, the approach is spreading from its core disciplines of physics, chemistry and biology to economics, social sciences, sustainability studies and other intellectual arenas. With globalization, the context is also changing. More and more, we are confronted with the need to think about complex systems as global, with many long-distance interactions.

The disciplined study of Complex Systems has different intellectual and organizational roots in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia. In Europe, the Complex Systems Society has created a flourishing interactive community across many disciplines with annual conferences, including the ECCS (European Conference on Complex Systems), that has served as the core cross-disciplinary meeting place since 2003. For the first time, this year, that conference will be held in North America to foster and multiply contacts between the European, North American and Asian communities working in this domain.

As the organizers of CCS'15, our goal is to create a venue for the different communities to interact, learn from each other, plan joint research and create the social ties that are necessary for a flourishing discipline. It is aimed at all colleagues practicing the Complex Systems approach, wherever they may be in the world.

Why should you attend?

We hope and expect that after this meeting, the world of Complex Systems science will no longer be the same. New collaborations will emerge. New domains will be opened to Complex Systems approaches. New research and ideas will be generated by the contact between the different communities and their cultures. Some will tackle the major intractable problems of the coming century, bringing much needed new thinking and along with it, new possibilities. New generations of young scientists will take up this task, and we expect this conference to help set that trend in motion.

Conference Main Tracks
* Foundations of Complex Systems
* Information and Communication Technologies
* Language, Linguistics, Cognition and Social Systems
* Economics and Finance
* Infrastructure, Planning and Environment
* Biological Complexity
* Social Ecological Systems

Structure of CCS'15 - Tracks and Satellite Sessions
CCS'15 is a 5-day conference. Days 1 and 2 focus on established and emerging Complex Systems domains represented by the 'tracks', animated by plenary speakers, followed by symposia that offer participants in those domains the occasion to address their colleagues.

Days 3 and 4 are intended to explore the completely new, by means of Satellite Sessions-workshops and sessions-where the proposers determine the topic, participants and structure.

On day 5, a general session will bring these strands together. We will also devote time to honor important individuals, place young scientists in the spotlight, and award prizes for achievements.

LAST CALL for ABSTRACTS:  Papers, Posters & Ignites

All fields of complexity science are encouraged, including disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary work. Integrative research is particularly encouraged.

Submission of Abstracts
Electronic submissions of abstracts (300 words maximum) will be through EasyChair: http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ccs15. If you do not already have an EasyChair Account, please sign up first here: https://www.easychair.org/account/signup.cgi
Your abstract should articulate the objectives of the presenter, a brief but thorough description of the research, and the expected gain by those attending the talk. (for identification purposes, make sure to use the same email address as the one used for the conference registration).

Three types of presentation are available, and you should select your preference:
Paper:  Accepted paper presenters will be allowed 15 minutes for presentation and an additional 5 minutes for question and answer session with the audience.
Ignite:  Accepted ignite presenters will be allowed 5 minutes for presentation with no questions and answers with the audience. This allows approximately 3-5 slides.
Poster:   Poster sessions will be organized each day of the conference, but not on days for the satellite sessions. Presenters are expected to be available at their poster during the morning and afternoon coffee breaks.

See awards in these categories for young researchers.

As a presenter of a paper, ignite or poster, you will select the track that best describes your presentation (see examples of topics for each track above).

Review of Abstracts
Abstracts will be reviewed by the experts of the Program Committee and accepted according to their order of submission and relevance to overall conference objectives. Upon acceptance of the abstract, paper presenters will be assigned to a session and provided additional information on the preparation of slides and organization of each session.

Poster authors will be provided additional information on preparation of the poster for presentation.
Important Dates

7 May, 2015: Deadline for submission of abstracts for papers, ignites, or proposed posters.

8 June, 2015 : Notification to authors of papers, ignites, and posters.

15 August, 2015: Final abstracts due in electronic form.
