Postdoc: Network analyses of pollinator movements, University of Toulouse
Our lab seeks a postdoc in the field of spatial ecology to study bee foraging movements. In the lab, bees tend to establish routes minimizing travel distances between feeding sites, an optimisation problem analogous to the Travelling Salesman Problem. We are aiming at understanding how these spatial networks develop over the long-term in field realistic conditions where multiple individuals interact to collect heterogeneous resources. Network analyses and simulations models will be used to generate hypotheses to be tested in semi field setups (automated tracking, computer controlled feeders, etc.).
Job profile:
A 18 months IDEX funded position is available at the new Centre for Integrative Biology of Toulouse (http://cbi-toulouse.fr/eng/). Start date May - July 2016. Salary ? 33638 per year.
The lab is especially interested in developing network analyses to study pollinator movements. The postdoc will be encouraged to develop independent projects along this line with the possibility to generate his/her own behavioural datasets or making use of data collected in the lab or by collaborators. The postdoc will have interactions with partners working on network analyses (Raphael Jeanson) and plant ecology (Christophe Andalo).
Required qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent degree in bioinformatics, behaviour, ecology or related field. Publication of work based on dissertation. Working knowledge of bioinformatics pipelines and analyses on large datasets. Proficiency in scripting language (e.g. R, Matlab) and depth in some area of network analyses or spatial ecology. Prior experience in working with insects is preferred but not required.
Application:
To apply please submit a cover letter describing your relevant experience and interest, a CV, the contact information for two references, and 1-2 relevant publications to Mathieu Lihoreau (mathieu....@univ-tlse3.fr). Initial review of applications will begin on February 15, 2016. Applications will be reviewed every week until the search is closed.
Please feel free to contact us at the above email address with any questions.

Fully-funded PhD: Migrants’ heritage and its management in local cultural institutions (deadline 18 March 2016)
Fully-funded PhD: Migrants’ heritage and its management in local cultural institutions (deadline 18 March 2016)
https://www.findaphd.com/search/ProjectDetails.aspx?PJID=72964&LID=2712
This interdisciplinary project will explore how local cultural institutions (museums, libraries, and archives) can better prepare themselves to embed and manage migrants' cultural heritage in the digital age.
Migrating heritage is a feature of our globalised world, characterized by emerging challenges of social inclusion and new roles for cultural institutions (Innocenti, 2015). Communication and information technologies are changing the dynamics and scope of memory construction, display and understanding in a networked society (Castells, 2010). In this context a number of issues associated with cultural heritage information systems and services are yet to be adequately addressed, for example in relation to content organization and access, users outreach and sustainability (Ruthven and Chowdhury 2015). This opens the possibility for local cultural institutions to gain a greater understanding of migrants’ individual and community needs in relation to their services, address shortfalls in collections, and contribute to cultural citizenship (Delanty 2007).
Project objectives includes:
* Exploring novel methods and tools to embed, manage, access and re‐use migrant’s tangible and intangible heritage in local cultural institutions collections and services;
* Investigating information seeking behaviours, perceptions and attitudes of migrants and minority groups in relation to local cultural institutions;
* Enhancing current social inclusion practices in local cultural institutions.
The PGR student will work with local institutions so that impact measures can be developed.
The PGR student will join the vibrant research environment of the iSchool at University of Northumbria, Department of Mathematics and Information Sciences, (https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/about-us/academic-departments/mathematics-and-information-sciences/ ), part of the iSchools organization worldwide (http://ischools.org/) dedicated to advancing the information field. Northumbria iSchool explores innovative ways and contexts in which digital information is used, created, managed, preserved. The PGR student will also have access to the new cutting-edge iLab for Web and mobile usability studies, data analytics, and internet of things.
Funding Notes
The studentship includes a full stipend, paid for three years at RCUK rates (in 2016/17 this is £14,296 pa) and fees (Home/EU £4,350 / International £13,000).
Eligibility and How to Apply
Please note eligibility requirement:
• academic excellence i.e. 2:1 (or equivalent GPA from non-UK universities [preference for 1st class honours]); or a Masters with distinction.
• Appropriate IELTS score, if required.

Creating Knowledge, Enhancing Lives through Information & Technology
PhD in argumentation and decision making at Montpellier
The position is within the INRIA GraphIK research group. GraphIK (Graphs for Inferences on Knowledge) is a joint team between INRIA (Sophia Antipolis Méditerranée center), the University of Montpellier, CNRS and INRA: https://team.inria.fr/graphik/. More information about Montpellier here: http://www.montpellier-france.com/.
Project description:
The topic is within the general area of knowledge representation and reasoning with inconsistent knowledge and argumentation.The research focus of the thesis will be centered around the further exploration of argumentation semantics for decision making.
For example, as opposed to classical semantics in argumentation where an argument is killed by an attack, ranking semantics simply weaken the position of the argument. However many open questions still remain: how this impacts decision making when using argumentation? How to explain ranking semantics outputs to the user? etc.
The candidate will explore formal properties of such semantics and their suitability in real world applications involving decision making and reasoning under inconsistency with existential rules. An important theoretical knowledge representation background is required. Implementation skills are a plus. The argumentation ranking semantics developped in the thesis will be evaluated in a real world application in the framework of the H2020 European project NoAW (No Agro-Waste: Innovative approaches to turn agricultural waste into ecological and economic assets, 2016-2019).
The PhD student candidate has to proficient in written and oral English.
Deadline of Application: 15th April 2016. Start date: October 2016. Duration: 3 years.
