Hi everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know that Saturday night about 30 minutes before dusk we saw a man going door to door. We saw him on Crestline and Troy. He came to our door and was asking for signatures. He didn't have a clip board and didn't give us any documentation when asked. Also he made a few inappropriate comments. He acted a little suspicious when asked more details about the organization he was representing which was KLM Reader Services.

We called the non-emergency police number and let them know.

A short while later we were leaving the neighborhood and saw the man with another, going door to door around 4th near the Terwilliger overpass. This man tested the door knob after knocking.

Description of the person:

African american, light skinned, small goatee, mid to late twenties, dressed in all black, on foot, probably 5' 7" to 5'9".

After Googling info on the company he represented there are many bad things said and has a bad reputation. Apparently it is a real company, but often they don't deliver the products they sell.

And now you know.

~Randy

Randy,
Thanks for letting us know. That same man came to my door also, but I was cooking ad told him I couldn't talk with him. He promptly left.

I'm pretty sure that same man came to my door too(SW 3rd). I didn't answer my door (I rarely do) but my dogs barked and barked. I did look out the blinds just in time to see a African American man leaving. I just noticed a him wearing a sweat band or knitted hat.

I assumed it was someone from the Boy Scouts b/c I had a flyer on my doorknob.

Sent from my iPhone please excuse typos. 

Hello Neighbors,
I did want to give you all a bit of follow up on this. After thinking about the mail later that day I had a bit more to add to the story. I remember coming into the neighborhood about 5:15pm and saw the man matching that description standing at the cross walk at the entrance to our neighborhood on Terwilliger and Troy. I thought it seemed a bit odd because he wasn't trying to cross the street, just resting against the pole. As I pulled into my driveway, I saw a patrol car cruising slowing up our street. Again, a bit odd as I don't see that very often.
After talking to my husband when this email came in, he had a bit more to report. He came into the neighborhood just a few minutes ahead of me. He noticed the cop car was stopped on the corner of Terwilliger and Troy and was talking to the young man.
So I am really not sure what his motives were but the point is, that by Randy calling the Non-emergency number when saw something unusual, the police really did listen and came to check it out. Whether he was legit or not, he got the message that we are watching out for our neighborhood and will tolerate crime here.
So thanks again Randy for being observant and taking action.
Just a reminder the Non Emergency Number is 503 823-3333. And it does pay to call for anything that looks out of place.
Happy New Year and may it be a safe place in South Burlingame in 2013!
Lorraine
