Dear All,
As you’re aware, it’s been sometime since the large STP Revamp/Upgradation Project was initiated by us earlier this year. It’s all complete now with proven results and hence is the right time to give you a final project delivery/closure update.
Before we do that, note that KSPCB changed their mandated quality norms for treated STP water starting 01-Mar-2021 I.e. quite sometime after we initiated the project. These norms are far more stringent than the ones our appt was penalized based on in Dec 2019 (which were the ones our project was undertaken to comfortably meet). Nevertheless, we did our best to readjust with the new reality and tried hitting this new target set mid-way - as you know, such things take time and are generally never easy.
We’re pleased to inform you that the said project is complete and as on date, our new STP setup meets the extremely stringent KSPCB treated water quality quality norms dated 01-Mar-2021. FYR, attached herewith is the latest test report from one of the best labs in Blr, showing this compliance.
Having said all of this, pls note a few imp things:
1. New Technology > This new STP setup (based on SBR technology) is a completely different design and process vs the previous (based on ASP technology) setup. SBR is more suited to our appt’s needs and hence the choice.
2. Ongoing Ops and Maintenance Discipline > The new STP runs 20 hrs a day, 7 days a week. So its a precision-based electromechanical setup which needs to be run, monitored and maintained accordingly. Any compromises in consistency of operation and maintenance of this STP from what is prescribed will lead to degradation of output quality and thereby non-compliance vs KSPCB’s quality norms set. The committee running things every year has to be mindful of this and support Abdul/Siddique as and when they need support with the MC taking critical decisions.
3. Automation > Our appt staff (Abdul and Siddique both) are now also formally trained to operate and perform preventive care of the new STP setup. We had also factored in automation when undertaking the project to reduce possibility of human error. The new STP setup can be and is run now in a fully automated mode (using a PLC panel) with option to override to manual as needed.
4. KSPCB and future > While our appt now has a process of getting the treated water quality tested every month, KSPCB has its own questionable process to get the samples they collect (once in a while) tested at their own lab (which appts don’t have direct access to). Their actions subsequent to those checks depend on outcome of those tests. So by doing everything we are until then, we’re only trying to increase the probability of our compliance and thereby avoid any further fines. Also, KSPCB can come up with newer norms basis future NGT’s orders. So again, this target will continue to move.
5. KSPCB’s Dec 2019 fine on the appt > This fine that KSPCB had levied on us was challenged in our comms with them and remains unpaid as on date.
Here is the report for your reference.
