GovernorMills announced the milestone at Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) in Fairfield, where she unveiled the initial goal in 2019. Following that announcement, the Maine Community College System expanded its heat pump workforce programs, and has trained 558 heat pump technicians to date, including more than 250 at KVCC, which opened an all-new heat pump workforce training lab in early 2021.

The governor was joined for the announcement by White House National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi, who extended his congratulations to Governor Mills and the State of Maine for its climate leadership by embracing heat pumps to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, increase overall energy efficiency, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

Installation data from Efficiency Maine Trust show heat pumps have broad adoption in rural and northern Maine, which underscores the economic benefits of the program and success of the enhanced incentive program enacted by Governor Mills in 2019.

You have to be impressed with what Maine's community of heat pump installers have accomplished in our state," said Michael Stoddard, Executive Director of Efficiency Maine. "Their adept marketing and skilled installations make them the perfect partners for the incentive programs that the Governor and Legislature have funded through Efficiency Maine's programs, and together we are changing how Mainers heat and cool their buildings."

Since taking office, Governor Mills has prioritized action against climate change in Maine through reducing carbon emissions, transitioning to renewable energy, and making Maine communities more resilient to climate effects.

In May, she was elected co-chair of the U.S. Climate Alliance, a bipartisan coalition of 25 governors committed to fighting climate change, which together represent more than half of the U.S. population and 60 percent of the national economy.

The governor in 2021 also announced a new State program, the Community Resilience Partnership, that was recommended by the climate plan to help Maine communities reduce emissions, transition to clean energy, and increase resilience to climate effects.

Since opening to enrollment in early 2022, 148 Maine cities, towns and Tribal governments have chosen to participate in the Partnership as individual entities or regional coalitions, and more than $3.7 million in grants have been awarded to 74 community projects across the state.

For Pump, Combat, CX and Sh'Bam, I use the 'Cardio' workout, and then later rename it to the relevant Les Mills workout. This works for me, as it gives me all the useful metrics including HR, calories and time. It also gives some useless metrics such as elevation (but I choose to ignore this, it doesn't bother me to have this information in there).

I think the question is how do you measure the essence of a body pump session? As a "cardio activity", it's an hour in HRZ 1/2/3, mildly aerobic and zero anaerobic, yet my limbs are dropping off with lactic burn!!! I don't think there is a good activity measure for this. The answers here let us record the activity like a diary event, but they don't help us measure the true activity.

You're so right! I'm new to Garmin and enjoying it but so disappointed about this. I do loads of Les mills and CrossFit-type classes and Garmin just can't handle them at all..! Really disappointing. I should have done better research, I thought they were better at this stuff but this is basic..

I teach the classes and get a little annoyed I can't track them properly. HR doesn't really help. In the case of pump, it's lifting to a big degree, but extremely different than a normal lifting session and should be accounted for properly within Connect so the overall training metrics would be more correct. Especially when being combined with the typical running, biking and swimming. I'm sure the body battery, training effect and so on isn't correct after recording the class as cardio.

I'll also hold small pump weights or use my own weighted gloves during combat (don't knock it till you try it) for a little endurance in the back and shoulders. And I'm pretty sure that doesn't get accounted for properly under cardio.

I like everything else about my Fenix, well mostly, but still wonder about trying a watch that incorporates LM into their activities. Honestly, it wouldn't be hard for them to add in the activities. Having gone to LM Live the other week, 7hrs of classes really didn't have the effect in Connect it should if it could have been recorded properly. And thus it drags down your overall metrics because it doesn't show the work you put in.

The best way to make sure that your heat pump provides heat on demand is to take care of it with regular service appointments from O'Brien Heating & Air Conditioning. Just like your car, a heat pump needs regular inspection to replace worn parts and clean the debris and dirt that accumulate in the moving parts. After this, we re-lubricate the appliance and can even give you a heads-up about any large problems we anticipate.

I hate cardio, so I usually try to take minimal breaks and do full-body exercises while weight lifting to keep my heart rate up. Therefore, for the most part, my weight training can double as cardio. This is the exact set-up of a Les Mills PUMP workout: low weight, high reps to gain cardiovascular fitness while sculpting long, lean muscles.

I was hesitant to spend the money at first, but after 1 week, I noticed a huge improvement in my upper body and even have been complimented on my legs recently. I attribute that to all the lunges and squats I do in my LM pump workouts. Great music and great that they start with the 20 minute DVD and slowly build up to 55 minutes. The Lean Eating Guide has some great ideas for fueling your body too.

Ihave been doing body pump at my gym for over 14 years. My gym just went under new management and canceled my membership. I no longer will be going to that gym. I need to purchase this set. How/where can I order this???

My recommendation here to track body pump, is to use the workout "Weights". You can select this exercise directly from your Charge 4. For more information, check the article: How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?.

@AlejandraFitbit, is there any particular 'science' behind you recommending 'Weights' instead of 'Workout', 'Circuit' or other options? Body Pump is not just weights and there is a lot of movement so tracking heart rate and other parameters would be important.

It has to be admitted though that the Dutch did take windmills and run with them, applying the technology to uses other than milling and advancing them to an amazing degree. Windmills are a perfect example of the famous Dutch talent of adding value and quality through innovation.

With a bit of tinkering here and there mills were adapted to extract the oil from seeds, basically by crushing them and then pounding them, this is how linseed oil for paint was extracted in the Dutch Golden Age.

All windmills need to face the wind to work and also need the sails on the wings adjusted to suit the wind speed. With industrial mills, this can happen when they next start work. With water pumping mills however, if there is too much water, it needs to be pumped immediately. So it was essential to have someone on duty 24/7. The water pumping mills were a whole lot quieter than the industrial mills so convenient for living in. There was plenty of space as they are actually pretty simple in their construction with not that many moving parts. So these mills were often also homes to the millers. This is pretty great for visiting now as you get to not only see the mill in operation but also how people of the period lived in these lovely old structures.

Why did I want this workout program so badly? Because it looks super cool! Seriously! This is high rep, barbell strength training. Metabolic strength, which I love. The program includes 7 workouts, a padded barbell and barbell clips, a set of 5 pound and a set of 10 pound plates, a fitness guide and a nutrition guide. The deluxe package includes 3 more workouts and a club step (or you can just buy/add on the deluxe workouts by themselves, no step). Before even doing any of the workouts, just opening up the big box, it does appear to be worth spending some extra money on. Very well put together program. The fitness guide describes the program, the trainers and gives you rotation calendars. The nutrition guide is another nicely put together and sensible eating plan; Beachbody always puts together sensible, healthy eating plans for their programs and this is just another of the many that will get you results if you follow it.
