AirPods Pro 2nd gen work with iOS 15.7 ???

I am scheduled to receive my pre-order of AirPods Pro 2nd generation, next week.

Apple says thay they require the latest OS versions. But, what doe. that mean?

Logically, they must work on iPadOS 15.7 and macOS Monterey 12.6?. But what about iOS 15.7.? Is this considered the "latest version", or will I be forced to update to iOS 16, to use my new AirPods Pro 2nd generation?

Could someone, please clarify?

I called Apple Tech Support, today. Was told that the AirPods Pro 2nd generation, would work fine, with iOS 15.7 on my iPhone. Then, I was given a big pitch, on the benefits of running the latest iOS version, since bugs were always fixed, and there were usually security updates. He didn't mention, the possible "tales of woe" from unfixed bugs! <G>

So, I won't be upgrading to iOS 16 before our meeting. Would like to hear the experiences of others!
