Helloooo everyone!
Hope that this crazy place is treating you okay. (Or maybe better
than that?) We are busy practicing, getting together some new songs,
and trying to cope with Alanna's absence as she runs wild in the
Georgia sunshine. And in the midst of it all, there's a Circus coming
to town!

So, please come to a night of revelry--full of good things to see and
hear at the Rozelle House this Friday, July 20! It's a fundraiser to
help the house stay open as a lovely space of creativity and gathering
place for the young and restless.

Featuring:
The Barbaras
Scandaliz Vandalistz (that's us!)
Organ Thief
Hamburger Hobos

and....
THE CIRCLE CIRCUS! (Aerial Silks, Poetry, Singing, Slack Line, Hula
Hooping, Poi, Juggling, Contact Juggling, Acro-Balance, and Contact
improvisation). You will be mesmerized.

822 Rozelle
Door 7PM (The Circus will perform at 11PM.
5 dollars to get in (and 5 dollars for beer, if you so desire.)

BUT WAIT! Hold the phone! There's more! For a suggested donation of 20
dollars...YOU TO CAN LEARN HOW TO CLIMB THE AERIAL SILKS! And even
better, the circus people can teach you the wonderful art/dance/sport
of CONTACT IMPROVISATION! Once you start dancing contact, you may
never stop. I could fill pages with praise for the form, but I
won't. Instead, I direct your attention to this youtube video of some
European men doing contact: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EoUY1KECUU
and to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contact_improvisation

David from the Circus will be heading up both of the workshops. (See
David in action on the silks here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kOANvylr8I
). He is an enthusiastic and patient teacher, and he's taught silks
and contact workshops all across these United States. Beginners are
welcome and encouraged at both workshops...In fact, it will probably
be mostly beginners. So, don't be shy! Take off those shoes and put on
your dancing pants! How many times do you get to fly through the air
on someone's shoulder or hang from a treebranch in Peabody Park?

The CONTACT WORKSHOP will be held Saturday and Sunday July 21 and 22
at the dance studio in First Congregational Church from 1 -
3:30. Plan to arrive a little early to warm up. If you can come to
one day and not both, that's okay!

The SILKS WORKSHOP will be held at Peabody Park on July 21 and 22 at a
TBA time.

To sign up for either workshop, call me, Katherine, at
(901)-674-0959. Also, call me if you wanna know more about contact,
because I love to talk about it.

The Circus asks that no one be turned away from the workshops for not
having the money. So come anyways. Even if you can't afford the 20
dollars, your presence is worth ever so much more. aww.

And..one more thing. If you can't make it to the show on Friday, be
sure to come out to PEABODY PARK 7PM ON SATURDAY to see the Circus
perform their second show. (Also, kids are welcome at this show!)
Lastly, if you are so inclined, the organizer of these events would be
grateful if you'd spread the word like butter all over this toasty
town of ours.

much love,
SV

p.s. We know the listserve isn't the place for this, but SV's PA-elss
asses have gotta ask: anyone have a PA we can borrow for this shindig?
p.p.s. Sorry this was such a long email. I salute you for getting to
the bottom and as a reward, I offer you a rare glimpse into the
amazing world of indoor Russian swimming pools: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkyLziLGWk4
