The Caltrans BAG bridge-model generator has been largely replaced by the bridge modeler available to SAP2000 releases through Version 14, and the current CSiBridge. Since the Caltrans BAG generator, bridge modeling capabilities have greatly improved and expanded with the release of the bridge modeler. Parametric and template-based modeling features, powerful analysis processes, design optimization, and enhanced output formatting all combine to create a more productive product which is easier to use. Quick question for anyone who uses sap2000. I have an AutoCAD model of an ellipsoid, and I don't want to import it into SAP2000 before I'm sure that I can convert the model properly because I've already wasted so much time on other problems I've had with this model. Currently the model is made of lines in AutoCAD, which the CSI website says will convert to frame elements in sap2000. I am trying to model a concrete shell, though, so I would need these frame elements to convert to shell elements. I am currently trying to figure out how to get AutoCAD to convert lines to 3dfaces (Which would then mean the input into SAP2000 would already be shells), but it's proving to be difficult (converting individual areas (around 400x5 models) into regions, then regions in mesh, then mesh into blablablabal).

ALSTOM turbine generators have been used in the power plant all over the world. The previous turbine generator foundations were mainly designed and analyzed by the professional design software. In this paper, FE models using frame element in the finite element software of SAP2000 and solid elements in the finite element software of ABAQUS were built to simulate the ALSTOM turbine generator foundation, respectively. Model analysis and forced vibration analysis were conducted and the simulation results were validated against the existing codes and specifications provided by manufactory. The dynamic characteristics of the turbine generator foundation could meet the requirements of the applicable codes and standards. The FE models built with solid element could better simulate the dynamic characteristics of turbine generator foundations.
