Position: Lead Node.js Architect (70% Hands-on Coding / 30% Team Leadership)
Location: Dallas, TX (Onsite)
Employment Type: Contract

Experience: 12+

Role Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled Lead Node.js Architect with strong hands-on development expertise. The ideal candidate should be an architect who actively contributes to coding (approximately 70% hands-on development) while also providing technical leadership and team guidance (30%).

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop domain-driven, event-driven microservices using Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Build greenfield applications from concept to production.
  • Define service boundaries, data models, REST APIs, event streams, CI/CD pipelines, and observability standards.
  • Establish API standards including versioning, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, pagination, and resiliency patterns.
  • Lead production readiness initiatives including SLOs, monitoring dashboards, alerting, and incident response.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including web, mobile, data, security, and operations.
  • Provide proactive communication on project status, risks, dependencies, and outcomes.
  • Conduct code reviews, mentor team members, and promote engineering best practices.
  • Drive RCA activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 9+ years of backend engineering experience.
  • 4+ years of technical leadership experience.
  • Expert-level experience with:
    • Node.js
    • TypeScript
    • Express.js / Fastify / NestJS
  • Strong expertise in Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
  • Experience building event-driven microservices architectures.
  • Deep understanding of patterns such as Saga, Outbox, Circuit Breaker, and Idempotency.
  • Strong experience designing secure public APIs.
  • Hands-on knowledge of OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, TLS, and secrets management.
  • Production experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native deployments.
  • Experience with CI/CD and observability practices.
  • Proven experience leading incident triage and RCA activities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Knowledge of rate limiting, multi-tenant architectures.
  • Performance tuning, capacity planning, and cloud cost optimization.
