Our mobile enterprise applications client needs an accomplished,
autonomous Contract Technical Writer to create original developer
tutorial and API reference documentation for building Android apps on
its innovative mobile applications development platform.

You’ll work onsite in the far East Bay using XMetaL to create DITA
content. Experience creating structured information is important but
DITA mastery isn’t. What matters most is your understanding of mobile
applications, the application development platform, and of what
developers need to know to be productive. If you can create code
examples, so much the better.

The deliverable is not a catalog of the API’s functionality, but
rather a use-case-driven guide (i.e., a cookbook) for developers on
how to use the platform and the relevant features of the API. It’s
therefore essential that you understand the platform, and what
developers need to know to create apps with it.

Required:
• Experience documenting mobile application development (e.g., for
iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, or Android)
• Experience documenting a software development platform
• Proficiency with XMetaL, Arbortext Editor, or a similar XML/
structured-content authoring tool
• Showable samples of your developer tutorial (task-oriented how-to)
documentation
• Showable samples of your API reference (function catalog )
documentation
• Willingness to work full-time onsite in the East Bay (Hwy 580/680)

Desired:
• Experience documenting Android application development
• Proven ability to create useful code examples
• Advanced understanding of DITA and structured authoring
• Developer-level knowledge of enterprise servers and server-based
applications

The ideal candidate must create well-organized, complete, and accurate
developer tutorials (“to achieve this effect…” instructions) and be
minimally dependent on the engineers.
