Hi group,
I’m a long time member, but not a poster ( old tecnophobe)

Thought this story might interest you
I’m 73 years of age, and been riding since I was 15.
Maybe I’m a bit of a bike collector because I have a 69 Bonneville, a pretty darn rare 75 Ducati 900 SS;and over the years have had dozens and dozens of bikes.( like many of you I think)
however, for the last 18 years or so ,my go to bike has been a 2000 SVS.
Last Fall I got a lousy thing called “sciatica” that pretty much crippled me up, and I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to sling my leg over a motorcycle again.
After trying  4 different physiotherapists, I found one that gave me hope ;and as a carrot to make me do my 40 minutes of exercises and stretches every day I bought a Monster 1200S.
I insured It for the first 3 months of our prime riding season (here in Vancouver a lot of us only ride for about 6 months a year) ;But not wanting to see the poor SV sit unridden for that long a period of time then insured it.
The Monster power is exhilarating, the Brembo brakes are incredible, the Ohlins suspension is creamy;

But if I could only have one I’d take the 2000 Suzuki SVS 650 .

Well Vic, I have ten years on you and a bum hip from wadding my 02 SV. I then got an 06 Wee Strom and toured the hell out of it till my old accident caught up with me as an arthritic hip, Couldn't support the bike and that was the end, Sold it to a neighbor and now I wax nostalgic by going over my old GoPro vids of some fun rides. Ride for as long as you can Vic, not being able to sucks.

Hi, Vic -

Glad to hear you've gotten relief from your therapy. I'm 78 and had to
quit riding eight years ago because of a bad back that doctors say they
can't do much about.  Still miss riding very much...

Man, I feel like the kid here - 51.  ;)

2004 SV650, bought in ‘05 as a leftover. Owned since new. Now has over 72,000 km on the bike, all but a handful with me behind the bars.  Every spring I think I’ll trade the bike in for something newer, and I can never find a reason to do so.  Although lately it’s been resetting the clock to 1:00 every time I start the bike, even with a brand new battery...

I’ve had a few other bikes (‘03 VStar Custom, ‘85 Interceptor 1000, ‘03 Buell Firebolt) but none of them have the staying power and all-round usefulness of my SV. Although my 2000 K1200RS comes close... but I got that so my wife has a more comfortable seat when we ride 2-up.

Guess what - It works!!!
Man I feel lucky. Am almost 76 but still ride with no problems (uh oh, where's something made of wood to knock on? Cripe it's right here behind these eyeballs). Dunno but I'm guessing that multiple years of rec soccer (ret.) and volleyball might be helping me. For me my departed SV's are still favorites. At the moment I ride on a '94 VFR750F and have '86 VFR I'm resuscitating. Sure wish Honda had made a smaller, lighter VFR version like the VF500 I had. Possibly they did but not for US market. Anybody know about that? Maybe the Canuck Sean knows.
Good to hear from you folks again.

There was a VTR250 (I think) which had the looks of the Interceptor but was a vertical twin rather than a V4. The smallest V4, I think, was the VF500.

Bonjour to you also, Beth and "Storehouse" Sean
I'm kinda fond of the VFR V-4 engine, early VF's had teething problems. Plus Honda didn't hit my sweet spot. Apparently there was only a 250 and 1000. There's a faint memory trace of a 400 but maybe I'm thinking of the Suzuki Gamma.

Wow, we are all getting old, it’s been about 20 years in this group now. I’m coming up on 65 soon.

I can still ride but my 2000 SV is in the garage with gummed up carbs again. I need to pull them and clean then install new jets probably. It’s always too hot or too cold here in the Chicago suburbs. No spring or fall, just winter and summer, like turning on and off light switches. Thinking of moving back to Florida, the west coast this time, near Tampa, if they ever get rid of the corona virus there. California would be nice but probably too expensive. Illinois is really expensive too and so corrupt it’s ridiculous.

Sold my SV to a friend, it's got carb issues as well. If someone wants a project bike, he'd let it go cheap. We're up in Don's country (Portland)

Ah, Rotella. :) I used to get it at Walmart when I lived in Austin, TX.

I’m now 47. I sold my bikes about 5 years back and haven’t replaced them sadly. It’s crazy because when this whole SV madness started I was 27 or so. Yes, I know 47 is still young.

soon to be 46 here. I’ve been on this list since the mid ‘00s when i had an SV track bike and it seemed like everyone had one. There are stlll a few floating around in our rider group. I haven’t had an SV in years. I mostly ride/race off road these days.

I recently rode an mt-07 and like it very much: a modern SV. It will probably be my next street bike.

But last night's PBS show reminded me that with the Cascadia Subduction Zone we are 320 yrs into a historic 240 yr cycle of catastrophic earthquakes/tsunamis. Sooooo.

don't scare the boy Fred, the tsunami the quake will set off won't reach Portland but anyone moving here should not plan on living at the coast. Portland won't be particularly safe particularly west Portland around the West Hills...the gorge may not be safe if any of the dams fail..I'd say look to the high desert county from Pendleton eastward...some great riding out in the John Day country..other than that we're just tickety boo. If you want some geologic history of the Pac NW, may I suggest googling Nick on the Rocks..Nick is a geologist teaching at Central Washington University..when Covid hit he gave lectures from his yard, often with a beer in hand..my kind of prof.
