Hey, some of you are gun nuts or have gun nut friends who live in
saner places than I do.

Since Mass. still has an AWB in effect, pre-'94 full capacity
magazines are worth more than they are in the rest of the country.
That makes them special to me, and not special to you.

If you can find any of the following magazines manufactured before the
'94 AWB, I'll gladly buy you a brand new version plus give you
a bunch of cash (and of course pay shipping).

31 or 33 round 9mm Glock
17 round Glock (square notch preferred)
15 round Glock 19 (square notch preferred)
15 round Beretta 92
anything bigger than 15 round Beretta 92 magazine (that works)
15 round Sig P226 (9mm)
Browning Hi-Power 13 round
15 round Beretta Cougar/8000 in 9mm (they're a bit of a unicorn)
Para Ordnance 14 round P14-45 (probably stamped "Canada")

Thanks,

-Will

I had a box full of pre-ban mags that I'd been selling off before moving from Ft Lauderdale to Chicago. I'll check and see what's left. I think I still have S&W 59/69 series hi cap mags, maybe 1 Sig 226, a bunch of Ruger P89/90 series and some mini 14 mags and maybe 10-22 mags.

Hey Will,

I did. So far I found:
2 stainless 30 rd S&W 5900/6900 series mags. These fit Marlin Camp 9's also.
2 factory stainless S&W 15 rd 5900/6900 series mags. Also Camp 9.
2 18 rd stainless Ruger P-85 mags. Fits P-89 also, and maybe a few others.
2 15 rd blue Ruger P-85 etc mags.

I think I have another box with some Ruger 10-22 hot lips 25 rd pre ban mags somewhere, but I haven't come across it yet.

All have the original packaging.

That's it so far, let me know if you're interested in any of them.

Manual says remove passenger and rider seats, unbolt six bolts (I have four screws and two bolts) and that's it.  It obliquely mentions spreading the two sides apart to remove.  Mine won't budge.  It will move a little side to side, but will not remove.  There are two tiny screws holding the left and right sides together, even with those two removed it won't budge.  Any ideas?

Also is regulator-rectifier going bad a common problem?  I am hoping it is the reg-rec and not the stator.

Can't remember how many bolts hold it on, but once all of them are out and the self-tapping screws (under the rear of the seat) holding the halves together have been removed, The two halves can be spread apart at the front and lifted off.

Very common. Never heard of a stator failure. I replaced mine with a heftier GSXR rect/reg, but that  takes some modification. Others have had success with an aftermarket unit. Beth, I sorta recall. Beth, you around?

Yep. I'm around in my no-bike winter wonderland.

I used an aftermarket reg-rec for a while but it started running an excessively high voltage and cooked my battery. After that, I used a modified stock reg-rec with an extra ground wire run straight to the battery's negative terminal. I don't recall all the logic behind it, but basically the theory was that they malfunctioned because there was too much resistance in the ground circuit. After that, never had a problem.

Pretty common. Mine went bad several years back, and at the time I remember being told it was a weak point for the SV. Replaced it with a GSXR unit, which is larger (bigger heatsink, for one thing) and so had to be relocated (mine’s bolted on under the tail now). Not a bit of trouble since then.

I had the tail off Scarlett last year for a super detailing. I can't remember it being a problem. Seems there are a few pop pins or whatever the proper name is, underneath where the tailpiece meets the mudguard assembly.

I believe once you have the front and passenger seat off you have 2 bolts under each one and 2 underneath for the undertail by the cargo bars. I can't remember if you have to unbolt the taillight or not. It is bolted to the subframe and I remember 2 screws either in the undertail or the side pieces. Hth

After being OOC with a bad ear infection for over a month I am finally able to tackle this again.  I managed to get the bodywork off after a lot of cursing and threatening.   I noticed that the diagram in the shop manual (pitiful as it is) showed two screws that were not mentioned in the text, after removing those screws and a little bending a prying the cover came off.  Whether it will fit back on again is another story.  There is no need to test the reg/rec - there is a hole burned through it which makes me a little suspicious of the generator output so I will check that after the bike is running again.

Suzuki no longer stocks the single-connection RR and has replaced it with a two-connection part.  Online research confirms that a GSXR600 RR will work and is a fairly common upgrade but needs some modification to fit.  Anyone know what modifications are required?  Somone mentioned Beth may have done this.  Beth, you still out there or are you still snowed into your igloo?

I found two sources, one called regulatorrectifier.com at $85 and MZS $28.  Big price difference.  I am going to try to contact the first to see where they are made.  OEM price is in the neighborhood of $150-180 so the $28 looks suspicious.  I also found a brand called Caltric but saw so many negative reviews and only a very few positive that I am going to avoid them.

So anybody got any advice?  On source, part, modifications, etc.

Ray

be sure to remember the exact curses and threats you used to remove said bodywork and then say them in reverse when replacing...should work like a charm..always worked for me.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

This is going to sound odd... but could this problem manifest itself as the clock on the instrument panel always resetting to 1:00 every time the bike's turned off and the needle on the tach always going to 7,000 RPM for a second even before the engine is started? I've got a 2004 SV650N that's doing that...

Thanks!

I replaced mine a really long time ago with a gsxr 600 one and it's been fine ever since. I think I had to use the original SV connectors and splice it in, but I'm not positive.  I think I added an additional heavier duty ground wire too.  Changing  a 2 plug unit into 1 plug sounds familiar.  It was all pretty simple and easy at the time, there were plenty of how-to threads on SVRIDER on the subject.  Mine is mounted under the side tail piece where the original one was I think, although I may have made a different bracket.

The snow has melted and I'm out of the igloo.

I used a stock SV reg-rec. I spliced and extra ground wire that went straight to the battery. IIRC, one of the hypotheses was that the units would fail due to too much resistance in the ground circuit, so the theory was to wire it directly back to the battery. It seems to have worked for me as I didn't have issues after that.

Nope, no clock, no electricity to power the clock anyway, no problem with speedo or tach, had a speedo problem years ago but replaced the drive head and that fixed it.

Hi, Ray -

I'm a bit late, I see. Let us know how it fits and works, if you please.

If anyone wants to use a GSXR rect/reg I have pics posted of my setup (minor modifications required plus a mounting plate).
http://www.strappe.com/pics/sv650/sv_reg1.jpg
http://www.strappe.com/pics/sv650/sv_reg2.jpg
http://www.strappe.com/pics/sv650/sv_reg3.jpg
http://www.strappe.com/pics/sv650/sv_reg4.jpg

BTW, I wouldn't be concerned about excessive output from the alternator blowing the rect/reg, it should handle anything the fairly wimpy alternator can produce. Open circuit voltage (no rect/reg connected) will be pretty high, maybe as high as 100 volts AC, so if you measure it don't go down that rabbit hole.

PS: Hi,Beth, Don, Steve, Fred.
Sean, I have no suggestions except a low battery in the clock itself, so the clock relies on the bike battery when it's on and has nothing when it's off.
