My name is Timothy Jones. I am an instructor and Props Shop Manager at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland. I am writing to you on behalf of the Black Theatre Network (BTN) Black Theatre Network - Home Page. Every year BTN sponsors the Judy Dearing Student Design Competition for students of the African diaspora pursuing Design careers in the theatre. This competition is our effort to promote design careers among black students and to offer them encouragement and mentorship as they pursue them. Please find attached a document explaining the competition and the entry criteria. Please help us spread the word about this competition by posting this information in your department and encouraging any of your African American Design students to apply.
The Judy Dearing Design Awards Competition is a part of BTN’s Young Artist Experience Competitions, which also include the S. Randolph Edmonds Young Scholars and the Student Monologue Competition.
