The expert will directly assist and advise the project director, based at GIZ Eschborn. He/She will be coordinating the project activities in Asia, especially in India, based on the project planning document.
The Expert will mainly provide the following tasks from 01.01.2012 until 31.12.2013
• support the execution of the project in general (Asia and other branches if needed), taking the project planning document into account,
• on request, update the planning matrix,
• support the project director in making decisions about the execution of the project,
• execute missions in the region in consultation with the project director,
• provide assistance in setting up terms of reference for experts, foreseen for short-term missions (for local and international experts),
• prepare and organise missions of short-term experts, workshops and seminars according to the project planning document, and make sure that workshop reports, in the agreed format, are available for distribution not later than three weeks after the workshop has been held,
• Screen reports, documents, studies and other relevant material in the area of "Sustainable Urban Transportation" in the Asian region,
• Actively disseminate GIZ’s Sourcebook on Sustainable Transport in Developing Cities and training material in the Asian region, focusing on the key target audience of the Sourcebook (namely, policy-makers and their advisers), and promote translation of modules and training material in other languages (chiefly Asian),
• Update, upgrade and maintain the project website and the sub-pages.
• Support in the development of a strategy for the on going development and dissemination of materials,
• Maintain close cooperation with UNESCAP and other SUTP Partners.
• Closely cooperate with the Latin America branch of SUTP, SUTECA as well as the Africa branch of the website.
• Actively explore opportunities for further funding, including funding of pilot projects, and provide advice to the project director accordingly,
• Establish and follow up contacts and cooperation at a working level with selected cities in the region, concentrating on a small range of priority partner cities.
• Produce further sourcebook modules and update existing
• Maintain the project filing system, both hard copy and electronic. This includes maintaining the project reports section of the filing system
• Organize and execute training courses and workshops, provide all logistical support
• Assist in maintaining the project accounts and book-keeping as request
He/She will maintain close contact with the project director, Mr. Manfred Breithaupt, at GIZ Head Quarters. All works will be documented and handed over to the project director.
B. Required qualifications, competences and experienceThe ideal candidate for the position will have:
• 5-7 years of experience in Urban Transport, of which at least 3 years is on sustainable urban transportation in a developing country
• experience in project budgeting and management
• a Masters degree in Urban Transport Planning/Engineering/Design/Transport Economy
• excellent English language skills (can be proven with tests such as IELTS or TOEFL)
• the knowledge of urban transport policy developments in Asia
• publications in reputed peer reviewed journals/magazines or have authored books on urban transport
• knowledge of maintaining websites in Joomla
