Event description:

Pre-Conference Masterclass on Transport Demand Management (TDM), Transit Oriented Development (TOD) and Traffic Impact Control (TIC) on 29. November 2011

Public transport systems serve as the backbone of urban mobility. Serving thousands of commuters daily, they are prone to congestion and inefficiency. What are the measures to be taken to optimize public transport efficiency? What are the best practices in mixed land usage? How do new developments impact on traffic around surrounding developments?

This workshop will provide consultants, developers and urban planners key insights on the concepts of TDM, TOD and TIC, informing participants of the practical and plausible measures that can be implemented in their cities without excessive infrastructure requirements.

With operations in more than 130 countries worldwide, GIZ will share its experience drawn from case studies of both successful and unsuccessful examples. The workshop aims to provide an insight into the following:

Transport Demand Management

  • Improvement of public transport
  • Improvement of non-motorised transport systems
  • Parking management
  • Physical restraint measures

Transit Oriented Development

  • Proper land-use planning and inter-relation with transport
  • Integrating land-use planning with mass public transport
  • Increasing mass transport ridership with modal integration

Traffic Impact Control

  • Estimating transport impacts of new developments
  • Identifying mitigation measures that will neutralise the impacts
  • Providing the legal basis and standard operating procedures for the TIC process
  • Communicating impact issues to city residents
