Danach: eine Achterbahnfahrt namens Pubertät, erschwert vom eigenen Anderssein, einem unmöglich erscheinenden Coming Out und natürlich durch die heimliche Beziehung mit dem großen Freund. Eine Geschichte nicht nur von Grenzen, die fließend sind und dennoch leicht verletzbar. Sondern tatsächlich auch von Liebe. Und ein Roman, der - obwohl von einem Profi geschrieben - von großen Verlagen abgelehnt wurde, weil er ohne ein Blatt vor dem Mund mit einem der letzten Tabus bricht: dem Aufdecken der Grauzone zwischen erster Liebe und sexuellem Missbrauch, zwischen Homosexualität und Pädophilie.

Missionaries by Phil Klay
I loved Phil Klay’s first book, Redeployment (which won the National Book Award), so Missionaries was high on my list of must-reads when it came out in October.
