Are you concerned about climate change?
On Wednesday December 5th, show your support for a strong Canadian
commitment to Kyoto by wearing *green* on campus at Trent. Also
watch out for impromptu special events all day!
On Saturday, December 8th, citizens like you and I in nearly 80
countries will be coming together to hold rallies, demonstrations and
educational events in their home cities. This is a tremendously
important time in international politics and the environmental
movement as the United Nations meet in Indonesia to negotiate the
next stage of the Kyoto agreement. Many see it as a point of no return.
Firm targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions couldn't come a
moment too soon, but Canada has been an embarrassing detractor from
real progress, both in our own country and recently in talks amongst
the Commonwealth nations. This doesn't bode well for a strong Kyoto
agreement, especially since this government has washed its hands of
our current Kyoto obligations. To make matters worse, they will be
breaking with long-standing tradition by excluding opposition party
members from joining the Canadian delegation in Bali.
Now is the time to tell the Canadian government that we can do
better. Now is the time to act to live up to our reputation as a
nation of bridge-builders and peace-makers. Join us and speak out in
support of a strong Kyoto agreement, Saturday December 8th at 11AM,
starting from Del Crary Park and marching up to Confederation Park
(across from city hall) in Peterborough.
This is a family friendly event and all are welcome. Bring a mug for
hot chocolate! For more details, please contact the KWIC Climate
Change Working Group, or visit or event website at
