REGIME IN ONTARIO==
With Dr. Paula Sherman, Co-chief, Ardoch Algonquin First Nation, and
Marilyn Crawford, Community Coalition Against Mining Uranium (CCAMU)
and Co-Chair, MiningWatch Canada
Paula, an assistant professor in the Indigenous Studies Department at
Trent University, is currently researching the colonial legacy of
conquest embedded within the Ministry of Natural Resources and
Ministry of Northern Development and Mines in Ontario. She will
discuss this regime as it relates to Omamìwìnini (Algonquin) people
and the mechanisms employed by Omamìwìnini people to prevent uranium
exploration and mining in Omamìwìnini homeland.
Marilyn, who has first hand experience with the Mining Act and the
system of 'free entry' which allows prospectors to enter, occupy and
use land to search for minerals, will discuss the Sharbot Lake
resistance and the actions of one community to protect their health
and the environment for this and future generations.
