FYI, you now have until Monday, January 19th to submit a proposal to present or share a poster at the upcoming sustainability summit.

Some examples of submissions include: Case Studies on successful environmental projects, sharing of research, sharing of best practices for campus sustainability, sharing of poster w/ information/research from a class, etc.

Please let me know if you need any advising on what to submit.

February 26-28th, 2015
Location: UH Mānoa
Theme: Innovation & Action


What innovation, project, research or leadership initiative will you share that changes the face of sustainability in higher education in Hawaii?


We invite proposals for the program-sharing track of the summit in the form of presentations, panels, skill-building workshops, and posters.  All accepted presentations should meet the following criteria:

 

  • Be relevant to Hawaii in Higher Education.
  • Include a key topic area of sustainability such
    • Teaching & Learning (SLO’s, Curriculum, Campus as a Living Lab, Cultural Applications, etc),
    • Research & Development,
    • Operations (Energy Efficiency, Air & Climate, Food Systems & Dining Services, Waste & Recycling, Procurement, Water, Transportation, Buildings & Grounds, etc),
    • Engagement (Campus Engagement, Student Life, Outreach, Employee Orientation & Development, Community Partnerships, Inter-Campus Collaboration, etc),
    • Planning & Administration (Coordination, Planning, Governance, Diversity, Affordability, Investment, Health & Wellbeing, etc)
  • Have a successful program or project implementation, perspective, or paper to share.

Conference Format Sessions will vary in structure in order to provide a diverse conference experience for presenters and participants. Presenters are asked to identify their preferred format in their proposal, however, proposal reviewers may suggest alternative formats and/or the combination of like topics to form panels.


Concurrent Break-out Sessions: Presentations, panels and/or workshops are sessions that present research, theory, concepts, and practices (please indicate clearly the time you will need). Concurrent sessions are 45 minutes long and consist of either one presentation for the full 45 minutes, or in some cases, two presentations back-to-back (about 20 minutes each) + Q&A

Skill-building Workshop Sessions are similar to concurrent sessions but are longer training sessions that are interactive in nature and facilitate group learning and participation in some form.

Poster Sessions provide an opportunity to present and discuss one main research theme or relevant topic in an informal setting. A good poster session centers on one main theme, presents useful information, and stimulates discussion. All participants are welcome to submit proposals for poster presentations and students are particularly encouraged.

Summary of Deadlines:
Proposals are due by Monday, January 12, 2015.
Presenters will be notified of acceptance by Monday, January 26, 2015.
Please confirm your acceptance to present by Friday, January 30, 2015.
A final confirmation of presentation time and room will be sent on Monday, February 9, 2015. Deadline for posters only is Monday, February 9, 2015.

To submit your proposal, please fill out the form below.  Proposals not selected as presentations may be invited as a poster session, and related/duplicating proposals may be invited to reconfigure as a panel session.

Special Form Instructions:

  1. Title: Please use common capitalization, not APA; Do NOT use all caps.

  2. Content: Select the area in which your presentation best fits (check all that apply)
  3. Please be specific about your content area so we can properly schedule your presentation. I.e if your proposal is for a speed greening session we need to know which topic it will fall under, etc.
  4. Theme Integration: How does your presentation or poster relate to this year’s theme of “Innovation & Action”?
  5. Session Description (150 words). Summarize content. (Why important? Impact?)
  6. Format (i.e., poster, speed greening session, concurrent session/presentation, workshop, panel)
  7. Proposed Session Length: for posters please input N/C, we suggest 10-15 minutes for speed greening sessions, 20-45 for presentations, 60-90 for panels, 75-90 for workshops
  8. Learning Outcomes (100 words). What will learners know or be able to do as a result of this session?
  9. Target Audience (100 words). Who should attend this? Describe the ideal audience, who would be most interested in this session?

  10. Logistical Needs: Do you have any specific needs beyond a computer and projector? If you require special room configurations, and outdoor space, special sound, etc let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
