Marn Yee asked me post the following for your consideration. Note
that we have this topic on the agenda for next Monday's Green Mountain
View general meeting in case you have questions or comments. Fyi, Marn
Yee does plan to be there to present her ideas re this.
Dear all,
On Saturday, Oct 24, 2009, is the first Climate Action Day of
Awareness by
350.org. Founded
by Bill McKibben, its mission is to "build a
movement to
unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis--the solutions
that science and justice demand." Various events will be
held by grassroot organizers throughout the world (incl Los Altos,
Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, even my hometown in Penang, Malaysia...
everybody is doing it!)
The goal of this day is to promote awareness of the science, policy,
and solutions of 350ppm CO2, the critical threshold that leading
scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide to avoid
runaway climate change. Event types include music festivals, art
projects, cycling tours, etc, etc, etc.
I have registered an event with
350.org
to distribute their educational materials at strategic points in
Mountain View on the days leading up to Sat, Oct 24, 2009.
The plan is to:
a) promote awareness of events in the SF Bay area on Oct 24 and 25
b) promote awareness on the science, policy, and solutions to climate
change
c) use materials provided at
http://www.350.org/action-resources
d) have volunteers help distribute the educational materials at points
convenient to them
Proposed locations: Caltrain station(s) @ rush hour, library, schools,
major corporate campuses (flexible to fit volunteers preferred
location)
Looking for anyone interested in helping -- during or before.
Help needed include: planning, printing, being at Caltrain stations or
other strategic locations distributing the info.
Thanks in advance,
Marn-Yee Lee
