Though I hardly ever shop through Amazon, I found out through a colleague, they have www.smile.amazon.com  which provides .5% of the purchase of any product to a non-profit based charity/organization. Considering the sustainability committee does not have a budget, if the committee was designated as a non-profit, would be able to accept funds to be utilized for sustainability related expenses?

I can't see why not. We talked a bit about incorporating again in the last meeting, inspired by news of the latest such move by a local group with the formation of "Croton 100".
