Registered attendees will receive a private screening link to watch the film, and join the conversation with McKibben, Lavigne and others right after.
For those of you who haven't met Sharon Lavigne when she's been to FERC with us, visited DC, or spoken at rallies and events all over the world with BXE and other groups: Sharon is a former special education teacher and grandmother who was called to fight back against the continent’s biggest plastics plant by what she calls a mission from God.
Ms Sharon has lived in St. James, Louisiana all her life, and she’s watched it turn from the lush and productive farmland of her youth into one of the most polluted places in the country, now known as “Cancer Alley.” When another huge petrochemical plant was announced for St. James, God told Sharon to fight back. This documentary follows Sharon and her daughter, Sharmyra, as they wrestle with how to build a better future for St. James.
Sharon Lavigne, Shamyra Lavigne-Davey, and Darryl Malek-Wiley (of the Sierra Club Louisiana) will join Bill McKibben for the post-screening discussion, and take audience questions.
RSVP now to join us live online on July 7!
And there are more episodes coming soon. Our old friend Maury Johnson has been touring the county on his "crazy train trip" showing advanced previews of the VS. GOLIATH: Appalachia. And you can watch that episode from anywhere in the world live online with us on August 4. Future screenings in September and October will feature stories from Greater Chaco, New Mexico, and Port Arthur, Texas.
See you next week!
