Hi, Sustainable Futures Bookclub members. I have heard about your group a few times, and just met one of your members last night at a Sustainable Kirkland meeting. I wanted to let you all know about a Sustainable Redmond group that is just getting started, and which is part of the SCALLOPS (Sustainable Communities All Over Puget Sound) network. If you are not familiar with that group, check out http://www.sustainableballard.org for an example of what other communities are doing. Sustainable Ballard was
the first local community to start this, and they have a great set of people working on various issues related to sustainability, including alternative transportation, home energy efficiency and generation, and gardening. As you all know, sustainability can mean many things, but I like the definition on the Sustainable Ballard website: "meeting the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." My ideas for the group are to work to encourage and educate all who live and work in Redmond to move toward sustainability, particularly with respect to reducing greenhouse gases. I am planning a first meeting of whomever is interested on November 24th, from 7-9 pm, at the Redmond Library, Meeting Room 2.

Feel free to forward this to others who you think may be interested in this. An RSVP to cind...@yahoo.com is preferred if you plan on attending, but not required.

Thanks!

Cindy Jayne
