Spring E-Update LEO-4000

National Sustainable Agriculture Standard

Development Process

Spring Greetings from Leonardo Academy!

Our process is moving along and the second draft of the LEO-4000 NSA Standard is nearly completed! Thanks to all the support of the subcommittee members and donors in this process.

Our focus this season is getting the draft finalized, edited and ready for the committee to vote on putting it out for a 60 day public comment period with ANSI.

To that end, our annual committee meeting will be held by webinar this summer. This will give us the flexibility to schedule the date of the meeting for after the completion of the edited draft. We anticipate sending the draft to the technical editor in May. Once the technical edits are addressed the draft will be ready for a vote and we will be ready to schedule the annual meeting and the voting session on public comment, an exciting step in the process you have all worked towards.

All current working drafts are in and can be reviewed before the technical edit on our process website http://www.sustainableagstandard.org/ under Resources - Wiki/documents then click on “Current Working Drafts” on the left tool bar of our Wiki; or click on this direct link: https://sites.google.com/site/sustainableagstandards/Home/draft-sustainable-ag-standard

You can stay involved by reviewing all the draft standard documents and submitting edits to Leonardo Academy.

LEO-4000 NSA Standard Projected Schedule (subject to revision)

·         Finalize drafts including formatting (finalizing process in April)

·         Submit to technical editing contractor (approximately one month)

·         Committee reviews technical edits and finalizes draft (approximately 2 weeks)

·         Committee votes on sending draft in for public comment period (approximately 2 weeks)

·         Once approved, publish draft in next available ANSI newsletter, initiating the 60 day public comment period

·         Committee Addresses all comments garnered from public comment period after closing (time period depends on number of comments received and available volunteer time)

·         Committee votes whether to approve draft. If approved, next bullet. If not approved, committee proceeds with all necessary edits to prepare the draft for another vote.

·         Standard is published as an official national ANSI accredited standard in the ANSI newsletter

·         Launch national Pilot Program for field tests (this pilot phase may begin during drafting and voting process)

·         Begin use of LEO-4000 NSA Standard in the marketplace

·         Recruit Committee additions for version two to include livestock production (2014 and beyond)

If you have any questions, please contact us at Leonardo Academy. As always, donations to support the standard development process are invited. Please let us know if you have any suggestions of potential donors.

Thank you for all your support and involvement!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Trucks

Hi all-

Glad to see this.

Can you give guidance about these issues:
  • what form the edits should take
  • what the deadline is
  • and whether to let you know when we have read a draft and don't have comments?
