Dear UCR Friends of the Santa Ana River,
Many of you have asked about a good, hands-on activity that would contribute to the betterment of the river. This would be a good one. I plan on being there and hope other Friends will be as well. Let Zyana (below) know if you can make it.
Cheers,
Steve
“Good afternoon,
Our annual Santa Ana Sucker Riverwalk Habitat Survey is scheduled for Wednesday, October 17, 2012. We'll meet here at SAWPA at 8:00 a.m. for coffee, donuts and a pre-walk briefing. Plan on being in the field until about 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. We'll all reconvene here at SAWPA for lunch and a shortened Santa Ana Sucker Conservation Team meeting.
This is the only snapshot of sucker habitat within the river and is strictly a volunteer effort. That means we need YOU to volunteer. It's a great chance to see parts of the Santa Ana River most people don't normally see, get out of the office and be a part of an important multiagency survey.
Please let me know if you are volunteering for the Riverwalk and I'll add you to the list. Several of you have already signed up to participate and I appreciate your interest. I'll be sending volunteers more information as the date approaches. Don't hesitate to volunteer because you're not an expert in fisheries. If you can tell the difference between sand and gravel (sand grains are smaller), we can train you to do the rest.
Have a great weekend.
