A local, national and global story
Just Jones & are bringing their award-winning production A Do-Gooder to the Tobacco Factory Theatre later this year.
Dr Stockmann and her brother, the Mayor, set up a Co-operative Health Spa to regenerate their childhood home. Exploring themes of environmental sustainability, ethical trading and local identity, the show asks the audience to decide what's important now - our local people or our planet?
We’re looking for local people aged 16 to 60+ to take part in taster workshops exploring the themes of the play. After the workshops you can decide if you’d like to perform alongside the professional cast when the show comes to Bristol in October. No experience necessary. Places limited.
Taster workshops are taking place at the Tobacco Factory Theatre on Sat 08 June 2.30 – 5.30pm, Mon 10 June 7 – 9.30pm, Weds 12 June 7 – 9.30pm, Sun 23 June 2.30 – 5.30pm
To book a free place or to find out more, get in touch with Carrie at the Tobacco Factory Theatre on carrie [at] tobaccofactorytheatre.com / 0117 9630948.
I agree that we should try to have supportive statements at the full council meeting. They could cover reduction of air and noise pollution, domination of streets by motor traffic to the detriment of other road users such as pedestrians, particularly children. However –please note that there will be a full debate at this council meeting triggered by the anti RPS petition which has reached over 3,500 sigs, so councillors can contribute then. This will be almost immediately after the public statements so good time to influence councillors from the floor. Tess

I agree with Matthew that it would be good to have a positive campaign but we also need to take part in designing a bespoke RPS for our area which will not be too expensive for users and small businesses and which will operate at appropriate times to suit the problem i.e. protect from commuter parking where this is a problem and protect the interests of minority groups and businesses in other areas. What should the scheme do about match days? Tess

Subject: Re: [SBS3] Residents parking
There are formal ways to be supportive - for example and letters, statements to BCC, formal responses to consultation etc, but I think this is as much a 'hearts and minds' battle that needs to be won as much as a number of formal processes we take part in ( I suspect those opposed to any RPZ scheme will win that one hands down in any case). Most of this is being played out in the local media, so supportive letters to the post, pigeon etc, taking part in radio phone in's etc and putting across the 'positive human stories' that demonstrate how RPZ is good for lots of things, e.g. controlling cars enables safer streets, better air quality, space for children's play/greening streets, reduced commenter traffic, fewer dropped kerbs blocked meaning better access for walking, those with mobility restrictions etc, etc. some form of 'positive' yes poster campaign would be good too 'Yes to RPZ because...' so people can fill in their own reason perhaps (because its about more than car parking it's about quality of life).

Have you got an idea worth sharing at the BoB show?
Southville Community Development Association (SCDA) are pleased to be supporting this years Best of Bedminster (BoB) 'urban village'. As part of the show SCDA will be holding our AGM as part of the 'BED tent' - our local take on TED, the online website that promotes 'ideas worth sharing'. The 'BED tent' will give local people who have great ideas that are or could improve Bedminster, three minutes to tell other people about them. If you've got a great idea you'd like to share then please get in touch with me.
