Meetings and Events in July and August + $150K Grant Award for Robert's Lake Eco-Recreation project

Please take note of the growing list of events for July and August. The big news this week was the announcement by Seaside economic development manager, Gloria Stern, that the City of Seaside, in partnership with Sustainable Seaside, was chosen as a National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Building Better Communities and American Water Charitable Foundation grant recipient. The City of Seaside is one of three cities awarded this grant in 2017. The $150K grant will fund the “Robert’s Lake Eco-Recreation” which will revitalize Robert’s Lake as a nature-based recreation area that will promote natural recreation and environmental stewardship. Tuesday, July 25, 1:30 PM, The Monterey County Board of Supervisors will hold a Public Workshop On Measure Z Exemption Procedures. This is the first meeting in which the Supervisors will consider and provide direction on a preliminary draft ordinance governing the implementation of exemptions under Measure Z. Wednesday, July 26, 6 PM, Seaside Joint Special City Council Regular Meeting. Study session on a draft ordinance to allow cannabis related uses in Seaside.
And at 7 PM, Public Scoping Workshop on the 2040 General Plan Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to inform the Planning Commission and public about the proposed Update EIR and to solicit comments. Find the agenda packet for both meetings HERE.

Thursday, July 27, 9 AM to 12 noon, Nursery Work Day at Return of the Natives. Enthusiastic and high-endurance volunteers, age 16+, are needed to help repair a deer fence around the nursery and replace the shade cloth. Thursday, August 3, 5:30 PM, LandWatch and the Transportation Agency of Monterey County (TAMC) will sponsor a panel discussion and public forum on The Future of Highway 68: Safety and Traffic Relief. The public is invited.

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, September 9, 11 AM – 4 PM. Sustainable Seaside’s 7th Annual Sustainable Living Tour: Ideas By and For Ordinary People. Visit home and schoolyard gardens maintained with sustainable Low Impact Development ("LID") practices, including rainwater irrigation, mulching, composting, raised beds, and drought-tolerant and pest-resistant ornamental plants. This year’s sponsors are Monterey Stormwater Education Alliance (Monterey SEA) and the City of Seaside. Seaside City Hall Lawn will be the site for tour registration and check-in, as well as the one-stop Information Fair with booths covering a variety of sustainable practices. This is a family event, with live entertainment and a raffle for earth-friendly goods and services. More details about pre-registration to follow.
