The negotiations and legal arguments around the Regional Desal Project are
nearing the final input stages. Even though Citizens for Public Water has
been a strong and consistent advocate for public ownership, we did not sign
on to the proposed agreement. Our main reasons were lack of time to digest
the rushed document, wildly divergent cost estimates, and lack of Monterey
Peninsula representation in the management structure. Manny and I attended
three days of workshops in San Francisco this week with all the parties.
Very interesting. We now have better data and strategy. We will
share it.
Please come to our meeting to learn details,
political posturing, likely scenarios, and where Citizens for Public Water is
heading. The PUC will have public hearings in Monterey on June 28 and
29. The PUC is planning to issue a decision in late 2010. We
want your reaction, your input, and maybe your help. This is the
final public run at this.
