Energetic Communities is embarking on an ambitious plan to help Corinda State High School go carbon neutral.
As part of this, we are inviting you to donate to our Crowd Funding Project to help build a community garden.

We want to help Corinda State High School build an outdoor classroom and create a vibrant urban community farm on the school's existing agricultural farm. Sustainability is a cross cutting theme of the school curriculum. We will teach students how to be self sufficient, to grow their food from seed to plate (or banana leaf)! Students will be much more engaged in practical activities and team building. The gardens would provide students with positive skills including creativity, critical thinking, responsibility, cooperation and autonomy, as well as self-esteem and physical activity, benefitting the sustainability of our communities, cultures, and local economies. This will embed growing food and sustainability across the school and allow for partnership and community building for the school.
Everything from art, to music, to geography, to engineering - you name it! Almost every subject will have an opportunity to learn though vibrant permaculture designed school grounds. How much water will be needed? What design work is needed? What photography and art opportunities will there be?
Our goal is to build an outdoor classroom, permaculture gardens, community allotments, community composting facility, and to redesign the school grounds to grow local food using permaculture, potentially making it Australia’s first school based certified organic community farm and eco-centre.
Students get excited about outdoor classrooms. They are hands on and are known to assist learning in a proactive and interactive way. The farm will get the students’ hands dirty (parents won't be safe either) and will be used to embed sustainability across the entire curriculum to improve learning outcomes for students.
The community allotments and composting facility would allow the school to deepen existing links with people in the local community, and provide valuable social and environmental benefits. The gardens would allow local residents to grow food, socialise, and share knowledge; while the composting facility would offer them a free way to dispose of green and organic waste and help the school at the same time.

Growing Roots Permaculture Workshop at Wild Mountains - we built a no-dig garden bed to grow food for staff and students. Look at those smiles!
This is a unique and worthwhile project, but with Corinda being a public school with limited funds, it can’t happen without your help.
The money you pledge will help us source the expertise, materials, plants, and other resources we need to bring this project to life.
This is part of an exciting project – aiming to get Corinda State High School to be certified carbon neutral by the end of 2015 (thereby becoming Queensland’s first carbon neutral school). The school is also rebuilding an old Station Master House, with plans to turn it into a community Eco-Centre.
Target: $7 000
That’s just:
- $50 from just 140 people
- $40 from just 175 people
- $25 from 280 people or
- $100 from 70 people
If everyone who liked our Facebook page gave just $17, we'd be there!
Please also like our Facebook page to receive updates and so we can show you our gratitude!
