Dear Anna,
Spring is the perennial rebirth, and its seeds contain both promise and hope. And while the dark, incoherent energy oozing out of the White House seems to obscure the optimism of spring, let’s not lose sight of the fact that optimism is a subversive act. And act we must!
Central Ohio’s Reuse Cup Network is one of many positive and impactful actions taking place on the local stage in 2025. Through this pilot program, CORC seeks to subvert the existing environmentally destructive “take-make-waste” way of doing business while demonstrating the viability of a model that, in the long run, is healthier, more environmentally sustainable, and which results in a more resilient local economy.

Good Café Joins CORC Reusable Cup Program -- the Seventh Location in a Network of Central Ohio Cafes Offering Reusable Takeout Options
|

Good Café – a celiac safe restaurant – has joined a borrow-based network of cafés in Central Ohio where customers can get their takeout drinks in stainless steel, reusable cups. Good Café is located at 4400 Easton Commons (Suite 150), and offers a variety of drinks, home-baked goods, and gluten-free dining options.
Good Café is a family endeavor, managed by owner Michelle Bolden and her son. A family bond and shared vision are the heart of their café; Michelle’s sister's vegan lifestyle and her own extensive research into healthy eating ensures that the menu caters to various dietary needs, offering vibrant and delicious options for everyone.

Good Café is the seventh coffee shop location in a network that allows customers to purchase their takeout coffee or tea in one participating location and return the cup in another café in the network (see network map below). Creating a network takes a lot of hard work on the ground and would not have been possible without the help of our coalition partners, Green Bexley and the Worthington Partnership’s Green Team. Special thanks to Emily Chueh, founder and CEO of our reusable cup partner, Okapi Reusables. Finally, we are grateful for the funding that helped us get from 0 to 60, and we deeply appreciate the support provided by the City of Columbus, SWACO (Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio), and Upstream Solutions.

Worthington Partnership Green Team Update
|
|
Courtesy of a grant from SWACO, CORC coalition partner, the Worthington Partnership Green Team, is implementing reuse programs, including the Reusable Cup Network, at the Worthington Farmers Market and downtown Worthington. So far, market coffee roaster Café Graciela and downtown Worthington café Kittie’s have joined the reusable cup program. Kittie’s other two locations in Bexley and German Village are also on board. And just this week, market smoothie and summer drink vendor Sunny Sips has signed up for the program. They will launch on May 3 when the market moves outside to downtown Worthington, expanding our network to eight locations!

Come See Plastic People at the Grandview Theater on May 18
|

CORC, in conjunction with coalition partner Simply Living, will be screening the documentary Plastic People at the Grandview Theater on Sunday, May 18 (doors open at 11:30; film starts around noon). This ground-breaking feature documentary investigates our addiction to plastic and the growing threat of microplastics on human health.
Acclaimed author and science journalist Ziya Tong takes a personal approach by visiting leading scientists around the world and undergoing experiments in her home, on her food, and her body while collaborating with award-winning director Ben Addelman in an urgent call to action for all of us to rethink our relationship with plastic.
