Dear Anna,
If you had told me at the start of the year that we would have ten locations in our reuse network by midsummer I would have said you were coco loco. But as the guy selling knife sets on late-night TV back when bell-bottoms were a thing would say, “And that’s not all!” Indeed, two more coffee shop locations will be joining the network soon.
While business owners are motivated to offer this service to distinguish themselves from their competition and because it’s the right thing to do, getting consumers to join the reuse program is a heavier lift. We think this is the case because “reuse as a service” (RaaS, anyone?) is a new concept that takes a little effort to comprehend and execute, especially compared to the convenience of throw-away. Granted, it doesn’t take much effort, but it is still just enough for consumers to stick with what they know.
Do you have ideas how to engage and incentivize consumers to switch to reuse? More importantly, have you joined the Okapi cup program? If not, what would make it more appealing to you? Let us know!
