April Showers
Stepping into Spring

April showers are bringing up wildflowers and fresh vegetables. With the greening of Earth, we are transforming plans made during the long winter into reality at Seminary Hill Farm.

Come celebrate Earth Day with us on April 22 from 4 p.m.-7p.m, join us on Wednesday mornings, or come anytime for a walk along Weiser Run. Be sure to stop by the barn for a trail map.

Community Supported Agriculture

Access to fresh veg all season long

Salanova heading to the fields.

Enjoy a bounty of vegetables, flowers and herbs for less than the price of family pizza night.

Seminary Hill Farm's CSA offers a market-style, take-what-you-will-use distribution that is unique.  Enjoy food demonstrations, garden fun and more each week at the farm. In German Village, we recreate that experience under the tree in front of Livingston UMC.

Spring CSA shares are sold out, but Summer (June-July-August) and Fall (September-October) shares are available. Learn more at the link below or call Laura Ann at 740.409.1881.

Calling all artists

Design a mailbox mural & win a CSA share

This vintage 1962 mailbox was used by MTSO for many years to hold packages. It is sturdy and strong, and is the perfect size for a toolshed to store buckets and hand shovels in our Children's Garden.

We are accepting proposals for a mural design to cover this mailbox. The winning designer will paint the mural onsite and receive a 3-month summer CSA share.

Send submissions by April 21 to seminary...@mtso.edu.  Photos of sketches or computer-designed graphic images are acceptable.

The winner will be selected by vote of the people on April 22 at the Earth Day Open House.

In Rhythm With the Land

Volunteers are makin' it happen

Volunteering has been ramping up the last month. With many hands to help, we have planted seeds, built a new low tunnel in Community Greens, raised flags around the Children's Garden, established a bluebird trail, built new beds in the Unity Garden and more. Catch a glimpse of the activities below.
Spring is full of opportunities:

Do you like walking in the woods?
Help us eradicate garlic mustard and volunteer on your own time once trained.

Enjoy gardening with others?
Come every Wednesday morning from 10 a.m.-noon. No registration necessary. Meet at the barn.

Are you interested in food forest gardens?
We are establishing a food forest on .25 acres in the North fields. We will be planting trees as soil moisture allows throughout April. Email to get notifications of pop-up events.

Do you enjoy bird song? Join us on first Mondays from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. for a bird walk.

Email seminary...@mtso.edu to get connected or learn more HERE.
Bevan, Chris, Mark and Gwyn spent last Wednesday moving logs felled by the 2024 tornado to the Unity Garden for new raised beds. Bevan, MTSO Facilities Steward, volunteers two Wednesday mornings a month on the farm.
With gratitude to the support from a private donor, the Ohio Bluebird Society and Scouting America, twelve new bluebird/swallow boxes were built and installed this month.
Molly and Reggie with a multitude of perennials Reggie shared from her home. These have been transplanted into the greenhouse garden.
Julia, Amber and Lola seeding vegetables in the greenhouse for Community Greens.
Chris, Mark and Molly covering the new low tunnel in Community Greens, which will help us extend the growing season for food donations this fall.
Mark, who volunteers two days a week, jumpstarted peas for the Children's Garden by planting them first in the greenhouse in gutters.

A rockin' team

Welcome 2026 Interns

Maggie and Carly

Each growing season we are fortunate to host interns who bring their hands, hearts and minds to this land, with a focus on either food systems or agroecological production. Our current team, Molly (in the volunteer images), Maggie and Carly are truly 'hitting it out of the park' with their vibrant energy, quick thinking and tactile skills.

Our Seminarian farmers Holly, Rosemary, Graham, Anu, HaeSeon, Angelique and volunteer MTSO resident Sam, are finishing up their last weeks of spring semester while working part time on the farm. They have been responsible, along with Nate our farm manager, for growing in the high tunnels and starting early seeds.
Teaching small-scale farming and producing good food for all in pursuit of a just, sustainable and generative world.
Individuals and groups are welcome to visit. Email seminary...@mtso.edu.
